The quote "Leave me alone to die." with the rolling on the floor and the wailing was last week's hidden reference. It comes from the movie Lilo and Stitch. So excited to see the live action 🥺
Onto to the next chapter and Easter egg...
Beware the change of POV😉
~~~~📱 CHAPTER 34: Nervous, mushy and shit 📱
"Sherlock and Watson finally reunited."
I raised a questioning eyebrow at Laurie but didn't dignify her with an answer. I was curious to see how far she was going to take this mockery.
My mutism was bothering her and she was staring at everything but me. Then she giggled again and started speaking to fill the silence.
"Sherlock does suit you perfectly, you're so smart, you managed to find me."
What in the world?
First of all, I did not find her, she literally jumped on me when I was peacefully sitting in the booth. Well, not very peacefully, but still. And second of all, she wasn't even who I had been looking for.
"I don't know why that notebook is in your possession, but I know it's not you." I stated as her eyes widened.
"What do you mean not me? Of course it's me," she laughed.
It was bizarre to see Laurie nervous, she was a very confident girl who went for what she wanted. She had tried hitting on me before the holidays, but we didn't have much to talk about and I used the break to cut off things.
What made her think I could mistake Irene for her was beyond me.
For fuck sake, I already had her phone number saved on my phone, I knew who Laurie was before all this and her name didn't even start with an I.
A sense of dread washed over me as I realized that maybe, just maybe, this was all a bad joke and that I had been catfished. A sick prank orchestrated by Laurie to make me get attached.
I gripped the notebook tighter in my hand giving myself exactly two seconds to rationalize that fear. I wasn't not one to spiral into overthinking, except when I was lonely.
As far as I knew, Laurie had no ability to hold her ground in the many debates I had with Irene. When I talked to Laurie, she had no conversation whatsoever. Laurie took no notes in class and studies were the least of her worries, she would have never been able to tutor me.
In fact the more I thought about it, the more I realized that Irene and Laurie had no common ground and that there was no way in hell Laurie could invent a whole new damn personality and keep it up for three weeks straight.
And last but not least, their voices didn't sound the same. We spent hours on the phone. I fell asleep to Irene's voice on the phone, I knew what her damn voice sounded like.
How did Laurie think this was going to turn out? How would she even catch up on three weeks of conversation and private jokes? And the very first question: why was Irene's notebook in Laurie's hands?
"Cut the crap, Laurie, it will save us both some time. Why do you have this notebook?" I asked, annoyed and gave her one more chance to explain herself.
"Why? Because it's mine of course..." she said.
She was brave and a good actress, I'll give her that but she was also very stupid if she thought this could work. That or she thought I was the stupid one.
