In the velvet embrace of the night, Clara wandered the estate's forest alone, blissfully unaware of the storm that was now brewing. The manor had been quiet and tranquil when she slipped away, so she hadn't thought much of it. The lantern in her hand burned softly, its amber glow casting flickering halos on the path before her.
Along the trail, solitary lantern posts stood like silent sentinels in the dark, their dim lights pooling faintly on the ground as if conspiring to guide her steps. Silence clung to her like a second skin, broken only by the occasional rustle of leaves in the cold wind. With each step, Clara glanced over her shoulder, her heart pounding with a mix of exhilaration and trepidation.
She was not afraid; there was a quiet determination etched into her features. Her green cloak billowed behind her, catching the faint shimmer of moonlight. The world seemed hushed, as if holding its breath, waiting for what she would find.
Then, she finally halted her steps; her destination was finally before her—a faint, silvery shimmer amidst the dark foliage. As she drew closer, her breath caught at the sight of an otherworldly plant. Its glowing stems seemed to drink moonlight, while velvet-like leaves shimmered with frost. At its center, a midnight flower bloomed, its iridescent edges shifting colors like a living aurora, the air around it humming softly with an ethereal energy.
As Clara knelt before the strange plant, she extended her hand. A soft green sigil of light shimmered into existence on her palm, its intricate patterns pulsing gently like the rhythm of a heartbeat. The light radiated a soothing warmth, casting an emerald glow over the peculiar flower.
"Ah, there you are," she murmured, her voice soft with a mix of relief and satisfaction. "You've grown beautifully since I last saw you."
The plant seemed to respond, its faintly glowing petals quivering as though acknowledging her presence. Clara tilted her head, a soft smile gracing her lips as she lingered, captivated by its ethereal beauty. Minutes passed unnoticed as she marveled at the shifting colors and the quiet hum of energy surrounding the flower.
But the spell was broken as a sudden thought struck her. Her golden eyes widened in alarm. "Oh no," she muttered to herself. "I must go now. Aunt Adeline will be furious if she catches me wandering the forest at night."
She hesitated for a moment, glancing back at the flower. With a reluctant sigh, she stepped away. "I'd better get back before she finds out," she said softly.
"I will see you again," she whispered softly, pausing to stare at the glowing plant for a moment. A small, playful smile tugged at her lips. "Veluthra," she said, testing the name aloud. "Yes... that's what I'll call you." Her voice took on a gentle, affectionate lilt. "Goodnight, Veluthra."
Then, grabbing her lantern, she turned and began to run—not in a hurried panic, but a quick steps of someone who knew every twist and turn of the forest path.
Unbeknownst to her, two shadows moved silently among the trees, cloaked in the suffocating veil of dark magic. Their form blended seamlessly with the night, every step was light and deliberate, dampening any sound.
The wind tugged at her cloak as she disappeared into the shadows, leaving the mysterious plant swaying gently in her wake, bathed in the lingering glow of her magic.
The lantern's flame flickered as Clara moved swiftly, her footsteps soft against the earth. She clutched the lantern tighter, guiding her through the darkness.
Then she suddenly felt a prickling at the back of her neck, as though unseen eyes had locked onto her. She slowed, glancing over her shoulder. The woods seemed empty, silent except for the rustling of leaves in the wind. Yet something was wrong. The shadows felt heavier, darker, as though they carried weight and malice.
