Red sat under a tree, still shocked by what had happened days ago. She can't help but feel like somehow it was her fault.
She felt isolated as her sisters went on with their day. Most of them have gotten over it now.
Red still held out hope that somehow, somewhere White would come back. She didn't want to believe the opposite--She's always lived in a world where when you die, you die. There's nothing else to it.
She then began to wonder if she had other sisters too, and the same thing, or similar, had happened to them. Maybe she was there, but she blocked out the horrible memory. Why were there only 9 sisters? Why not 10? Or even 12! Was there a brown one? Maybe even a grey, or a sky blue! Maybe my sisters really are heartless!
Red was determined to find out. She didn't know why, but at least it would get her sister off her mind.
--
The sisters had always kept a hidden box full of old stuff buried in a hole. Only the sisters knew about it--the dirt that had been placed on top of it had been there for so long that it looked identical to the grass around it. The only reason Red was able to find it is because they had placed a small wooden stake next to it, which had actually injured Pink, Green, and Yellow.
Red grabbed a shovel and cautiously dug up the grass. As she kept on digging, she wondered, what secrets will I find here?
Swiftly grabbing the wooden stake from the ground, she placed it beside her and looked down the hole she had dug.
Just as she saw something reflecting the sun's light, she heard a blaring sound coming from behind her. She jumped, and turned around to look. Orange was staring back at her, her face red with anger.
"What do you think you're doing!! We agreed that we wouldn't touch that box 4 years ago!"
Red stammered. She had forgotten about the agreement... "I-I just.. I just wanted t-to-"
"I don't wanna hear it!" Orange scolded. "Only the first three eldest are allowed to look in there!"
Red thought for a moment. That would mean that only Orange, Black, and Blue were allowed to see it. Red was somewhere in the middle.
Red rolled her eyes. "Why is that a rule anyway? Is there something you're hiding from the rest of us?"
Orange's face turned a light shade of blue. She covered her face for a moment as a tear streamed down her face.
She wiped the tear and took a deep breath."No. We just don't want anyone younger than Blue down there." Orange whispered. "You got that?"
Red glared at Orange. Orange smiled, but Red could tell that she was lying.
Red blinked. Then, she dove inside the hole and grabbed the box.
She sprinted away as Orange yelled and ran after her. Eventually, Orange couldn't keep up and leaned against a tree to catch her breath.--
After what felt like hours of running and panting, Red had to take a break. She slowed down, looked around, and saw no sign of Orange, or the other two eldest. She sat down and tried to control her heavy breathing.
A few minutes later, she finally felt like she could breathe again. She carefully opened the box.
Inside, she found a framed picture, two diaries, 5 pens, another frame, a small key, and a plastic bag for the picture.
Red looked at the picture. She found a picture of all of her siblings. Weird, she thought. Why would Orange act so secretive about that?
She looked closer. Maybe there was something weird about this...
