Author’s POV
Seo-rin sat motionless in her room after the confrontation with Jungkook. Her jaw still ached from his tight grip, and her wrist was sore, but the pain wasn’t what weighed on her the most. It was his words—the venom, the cruelty, the complete lack of hope in his voice.
“You think you can fix something that’s beyond repair? You’re wasting your time.”
The words echoed in her mind, but they didn’t weaken her resolve. If anything, they strengthened it.
She opened her laptop, her fingers hovering over the keyboard as she tried to think of where to begin. “How to change someone?” she typed hesitantly into the search bar.
The screen flooded with results. Articles, blogs, and forums offering advice on changing someone’s behavior or mindset. Seo-rin clicked on the first link, scanning through a long list of steps.
“Communicate openly.”
“Set clear boundaries.”
“Give them time to change on their own.”She frowned. None of it seemed right. Jungkook wasn’t someone who would sit down and talk openly about his feelings. He wasn’t someone who would change on his own.
She clicked on another link. This one suggested being a role model for the change you want to see.
She scoffed. As if I can role model anything to him. He barely even sees me as a person.
Frustrated, she kept scrolling. Page after page, article after article, nothing resonated with her. Each suggestion felt superficial and ineffective for someone like Jungkook, whose wounds were carved deep into his soul.
Finally, she stumbled upon a blog written by an anonymous writer. The words were simple but profound, almost like a stream of consciousness:
“When someone loses something precious—something they believed was their only chance at happiness—they often feel it’s the end. But life always offers a second chance. It might not be obvious, and it might not come easily, but it’s there, waiting to be discovered.”
Seo-rin’s eyes softened as she read on.
“The human soul clings to that second chance, believing it to be their salvation. But if they lose it too, they can fall into a dark abyss—a forest with no light, no path, only despair. The only way out is for someone to bring them light. To show them there’s still a reason to live, still a world worth returning to.”
The words struck her like lightning.
She leaned back in her chair, her mind racing. That’s it. Jungkook is lost in that dark forest. He’s clinging to his pain because he doesn’t see anything else. If I want to help him, I have to be his light. I have to show him there’s more to life than his past.
Seo-rin sat upright, determination sparking in her eyes. She grabbed a notebook from the nightstand and flipped it open.
“This won’t be easy,” she murmured to herself. “But I have to try. If I don’t, he’ll stay trapped in that darkness forever.”
She began jotting down ideas, crossing them out almost as quickly as she wrote them.
“Talk to him—”
“No, he’ll never open up willingly.”“Surprise him with kindness—”
“Too obvious. He’ll see right through it.”She paused, chewing on the end of her pen. What did Jungkook need? What could break through the walls he’d built around himself?
She thought back to the journal. To the way he had written about Sia. His words had been raw and unguarded, full of love and longing. It was clear she had been his light once, but when he lost her, his world crumbled.
“I need to make him feel again,” Seo-rin whispered. “Not just pain or anger, but something real. Hope. Joy. Love.”
Her pen flew across the page as ideas started to take shape. Small steps, little actions to remind him of the world outside his pain.
Start with the basics: bring warmth into his cold routines.
Find ways to make him laugh, even if it’s just for a moment.
Show him kindness without expecting anything in return.
Be patient, even when he lashes out.
She underlined the last point three times. Patience. It would be the hardest part, but she knew it was crucial. Jungkook wasn’t going to change overnight.
----
As the night deepened, Seo-rin closed her notebook, her resolve solidified. She wasn’t just doing this for him—she was doing it for herself, too. She couldn’t live in this mansion, in this loveless marriage, knowing she hadn’t tried to make things better.
“I’ll bring him back,” she said softly, her voice steady. “Even if it takes everything I have, I’ll bring him back to the world. To life.”
Outside her window, the moon shone brightly, its light cutting through the darkness of the night. Seo-rin took it as a sign. She would be the moonlight to Jungkook’s dark forest, guiding him out of the shadows one step at a time.
