One foot after the next, we continued walking past the trees, branches, and thorns, and trying our very best to not get pierced with any of them, like I did that one time. Jax seemed to be getting more annoyed as time progressed though, which I couldn't blame him for. I kinda forced him to not give up so easily, after all.
"How long is this going to take, just to get to the middle of the forest? Is there even a middle?" Jax started speaking out loud, his ears flopped over as his eyes were narrowed, looking like he wanted to strangle somebody.
"There probably is one. Maybe we--" Before I finished my sentence, there was loud rustling in the evergreen bush next to us. Both of our heads whipped over to the area to stare at the bush intensely. "Um...who's there?"
Jax's eyes narrowed at me. "Oh, way to go. You're basically calling for danger instead of safely staying quiet."
"My bad," I spoke, though I didn't really feel bad. I was craving for something else to happen besides aimless walking. I'm getting bored, and I needed this to be an actual 'adventure' as Caine calls it.
The bush seemed to part the branches away, just to see...Gangle? Her eyes widened as she saw us, a soft and bashful smile was on her face since she didn't have her comedy mask on at the moment.
"Y/N? Jax? I'm s-so glad to see you two," Gangle squeaked as she fully walked out of the bush.
"Wow, so it's just you? Way to give me a heart attack," Jax hissed. His demeanor clearly seemed to be a bit more on edge, and Gangle could see it too since her eyes widened from his sudden tone.
"S-Sorry! But, um, where did you guys go...?"
My eyes glanced over at Jax and we both locked eye contact for a moment in a quick knowing glance before I decided to answer her question. "We...stayed behind to talk for a minute. When we turned back to where the group was originally...you guys were gone. Where did you guys go?"
Gangle glanced to the side for a moment before speaking timidly. "Well...once we saw you two missing, we decided to...split up to look for you."
Jax's eyes went wide. "Are you kidding!? That's the worst thing you could do!"
"...We thought it w-was a normal nature walk, so we didn't think splitting up would be bad! But...as time progressed, the nature trail seemed to...warp. A-At least, that's what I noticed. One moment I was on the trail, the next moment in a blink of an eye I ended up in the forest, like the trail seemed to twist and turn without my knowledge. Then I heard Kinger's scream and I tried chasing after that, but that only made me more lost. B-But then I heard your voices from pretty close by from where I was originally, which led me to you two."
The path started warping. That's why we were suddenly walking to fucking circles. So this wasn't a normal adventure. It was a goddamn labyrinth. A little maze that Caine could warp to his desire. That's just cruel.
"So this wasn't a normal adventure then," I mentioned with exhaustion nipping at my tone.
"Sadly..." Gangle sulked. "But now that we've found each other, let's try finding the others and then getting out of here. I...I don't like this, anymore."
"For once, Crybaby, I agree with you," Jax huffed. "Let's get going. But, before we continue...where did you hear Kinger's scream? Like, what direction?"
"Um..." Her voice trailed off. "I-I'm pretty bad with directions, but I heard it from the left of where I was when he screamed, b-but I doubt that helps at all."
