Parallels | Daryl Dixon | Book 1

 The sun begins to rise, as do we all. Packing our stuff, getting ready to go, still not sure of where we are going. Or if we even are staying together. I didn't really have anything to pack since I stayed in my truck, all I had to do was strap my bike to the bed of my truck. Hearing all the conversations, about where every ones going, and how every ones travelling. Somehow the conversation about Fort Benning just disappeared, no one, not one person talked about going there, which I didn't care cause I definitely wouldn't have followed them for that one.

Most of us stood around in a circle, just looking at one another, not saying a word. "So are we all going to the CDC? Or are we splitting up?" I asked looking at Rick but mainly meant it to everyone around us. "Well I don't think any ones going to Fort Benning, so yeah I think we're all staying together," Rick nodded as he responded to me. "Um actually, I'm not-well me and my family ain't coming, we have family in Birmingham were gonna go towards them, I gotta look out for my family, just like you are" the man of who's name I don't know stated. As he and the others continued to talk, I zoned out, until their little girl hugged me and said goodbye. I wished them my goodbyes and headed towards my truck, so we could all get a move on. Yet somehow I knew, we wouldn't be leaving right away anyways.

As I suspected, we didn't leave right away, they started talking about where everyone would sit. I honestly thought we already knew but apparently some people were still quite confused. They not only were talking about that, but when I got out of my truck to see what was taking everyone so long, they were discussing where everyone would be in line. Well not really discussing, more like Shane and Rick arguing, well screaming at each other. "Hey, how bout the RV goes first, you next Rick, then Shane, then me and Daryl" I said as I interrupted their fighting. They nodded in response and walked towards their vehicles in disappointment. "Hey Dixon, you know the plan?" "Mhm, yea want me behind you or in front?" He grunted. "Up to you, I'm good with either" I replied as I turned and walked away from him.

When we all finally drove off, we lost some of the daylight, which I was not happy or excited about. Being that close to the city at night, especially with the amount of people we have is not at all something I wanted. Throughout the drive nothing really happened, no walkers were really seen, and we stayed in order. As it started to get dark we all stopped, figuring out what we should do, it was somehow decided that we would continue, like I assumed. As hours go by, it starts to get light, hopefully meaning we're close. One thing I didn't get about this whole "apocalypse" was I swear it takes longer now to go somewhere than it did before, we could drive for hours and not be at the CDC but if it was before we would have already been there. That's when I heard it. The honk from the RV. Finally we were here, at the CDC.

"Everyone stay close, stay together, come on let's go, but keep your eyes open, everyone got it?" Rick says. With numerous nods and mumbles of yes's, we started on our way from the road to the building. While slowly walking towards it, all of us were still in a line, seeing and smelling hundreds of the burnt rotting dead flesh. It was so bad it made you wanna throw up and or turn into one of them. "Hey, here since yk' I took yours" Daryl offered one of his bandanas, so I could cover my nose, as I did many followed in pursuit, whether it was their shirt, sleeve or a bandana as well. "Come on, let us in!" Rick screamed, while banging on the doors. "Hey, there's no one here" I yell towards them. "Let's go, we can't stay here any longer," I continued. "Come on, man let's go no ones here" Shane yells towards Rick. "Walkers" Daryl yells, "Come on, you brought us to nowhere man" He continued while walking towards Rick to get in his face. "Hey, leave it we gotta go there coming" I yelled towards no one in particular, while pushing Daryl away from Rick. "No, no look that camera moved, it moved. Someone is in there man" Rick screamed towards the camera. "It's motion activated, no ones in there though man" Shane tried reasoning him. When that didn't work he started dragging Rick back towards the vehicles, when something unbelievable happened. There was this bright light as the big door started to slowly open.
