But when she headed downstairs to have breakfast twenty minutes later, she saw Magnus sitting by the feet of the woman Y/N didn't want to see. Magnus was sleeping on the floor, completely unbothered by anything.

Y/N's father agreed with whatever his mother was saying but Y/N knew he wasn't paying her attention.

As stealthy as she could, Y/N snuck into the kitchen and grabbed from the fridge the food her mother left before leaving for work. Y/N sat down on the floor and ate fast, left the dish she used in the sink, and ran upstairs to her room to finish getting ready.

Once she was done, Y/N prayed for her grandmother not to notice her stepping out of the house. The living room was right next to the house's door and it was risky to walk by without someone noticing. Y/N contemplated jumping out of the window, but even if she landed on the bushes, her father might notice the sound.

Perhaps if she left by using the backdoor and then jumped off the fence... No. That wouldn't work.

Y/N packed her ice skating things in another bag and dropped it out of the window. It landed on the bushes with a muffled thud and she smiled.

Y/N grabbed her backpack and her roller skates and returned downstairs, mentally preparing herself to greet her grandmother.

Y/N's father and grandmother were too distracted to notice Y/N's quiet steps and she was relieved by it. She stopped by the door and sat down to put her roller skates on as she listened to their conversation.

"It's a shame Chiara had to leave early," the woman said. "I wanted to talk to her. Ask her about her job and Y/N."

Y/N rolled her eyes and took off her shoes.

The woman hummed. "Where's your daughter by the way? Isn't it late for her to wake up?"

"She must be getting ready," her father answered.

"Well, she must come downstairs soon," she said. "Is she always this late?"

"No, Mom, she is not," Y/N's father said irritated. "Besides, knowing Y/N, she will never be late when she has midterms."
