Some of her hair was curled and pinned atop her head, long and flowing freely in the back. She was gorgeous, and clearly high status.
"Yes ma'am." The woman beside her spoke as she kept in step. She and the others were wearing different garments and embellishments of their own, not looking like any servants you had ever seen. They were goddesses, after all.
"And ask our librarians to pull some volumes from the astronomy shelf." The leader continued but your eyes moved to where Thor now appeared from around his pillar. You darted your gaze between him and the woman, making sure she didn't see him as he walked further and further out.
His eyes held a wondrous longing as he gazed at the women now on the other side of the banisters. You looked at Rocket to see him looking at Thor with the same concern and confusion as you were.
"Who's the fancy broad?" He asked after jumping up the stone Thor was nearest. You walked from behind your hiding place and stood beside them, gazing at the enormous door they exited out of.
"That's my mother." Thor spoke distantly.
"She's beautiful." You breathed out and looked at him.
"She dies today." He added, not breaking his solemn stare.
"Oh... That's today?" Rocket asked and rested his hand (paw?) on his hip. You gazed at the brute as his breathing became heavier and faster.
"Thor?" You asked carefully and froze in place, unsure what to do.
"I can't do this." He spoke breathlessly and scrunched his face together as if trying to squeeze away the memories. "I can't do this. I shouldn't be here. I shouldn't have come."
"Thor," you tried to get his attention again. He turned to you and Rocket and shifted between his feet anxiously, fanning his face as he began to break down.
"It's a bad idea." His voice began to tremble and he looked from you to Rocket.
"Come here." Rocket spoke and shook his hand (PAW?!) towards himself.
"No, no, no." Thor rambled and shook his head wildly. "I think I'm having... I'm having a panic attack."
"Come here." Rocket motioned again and Thor managed to take a tiny step closer. "Right here."
"I shouldn't be here. This is- this is ba-" Rocket interrupted the garrulous man with a hefty and loaded smack across the cheek.
Your own breath caught in your throat as the skin to skin explosion echoed throughout the hallways. Thor's head jerked to the side but he recovered quickly as Rocket began a stern pep talk, shaking the searing pain from his palm.
"You think you're the only one who lost people?" He spoke tough as Thor pinched the bridge of his nose. "What do you think we're doing here? I lost the only family I ever had. Quill, Groot, Drax, the chick with the antenna. All gone."
Thor calmed down and listened to Rocket closely.
"I get you miss your mom but... she's gone. REALLY gone." Rocket tried harder to be gentle. "And there are plenty of people who are only kind of gone and you can help them."
"Thor," you spoke again, this time gaining his attention. His brown and blue eyes pierced into you with sorrow and your face fell into sympathy. "My mom died before the snap too."
"Really?" He asked, not knowing much about you. You nodded and leaned against the pillar.
"Yeah. I'm really sorry we share that feeling." You breathed out and looked at the marble flooring with knitted, focused brows. "Even if we did all of this and it worked, they'll still be gone."
