chapter sixty-three
now that we don't talk

"𝐈 𝐇𝐀𝐕𝐄𝐍'𝐓 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐃 𝐅𝐑𝐎𝐌 him!" Grace exclaimed, frustratedly throwing her phone onto the cushioned chair and holding her head in her hands. "His service went out and now I can't get through to him. He's stuck in space, Rhodey!"

The man nodded, watching her pace back and forth at the length of the room. "I know," he said softly while she let out a small huff. "I know."

"And that idiot in Washington wants a meeting about the fact that we haven't seen Steve and everybody since their tracking went out over Scotland?" she asked, gesturing to the blank hologram where Secretary Ross would often stand. "I think we have more pressing matters than a few 'wanted criminals' that he labeled!"

"Take a breath, Grace," Rhodey said and she sighed, collapsing in the chair. "Especially because our meeting with him is right now."

She rolled her eyes as the hologram turned on and Secretary Ross filled their irises, the hazel ones of Grace immediately hardening. "Still no word from Vision?" was his first question.

"No—"

"Satellites lost him somewhere over Edinburgh," Rhodey interrupted, giving Grace a look and she clenched her jaw, crossing her arms.

Ross nodded. "On a stolen Quinjet with four of the world's most wanted criminals," he replied and she scoffed.

"They're only criminals because you labeled them like that," she said, standing up to face the politician. "Sir."

"Stark—"

"If it weren't for the Accords, Vision would've been right here," Rhodey agreed with Grace and Ross looked at him.

"I remember your signature on those papers, Colonel."

He nodded and stood up from the table. "That's right. And I'm pretty sure I've paid for that."

Grace looked down at the electric braces that Tony had designed for him, with her help, of course, that allowed him to walk despite his paralysis from his crash during the fight at the airport.

She let out a breath, turning back to her computer to search for any more news regarding the heroes stuck in space.

"You have second thoughts?" Ross asked him.

"Not anymore."

"Mr. Secretary."

Grace paused when she heard his voice. Her hands were hovering over the keyboard of her laptop and Rhodey glanced over at her. She could see his reflection on the screen of her computer.

Did he have a beard?

"You got some nerve," Secretary Ross said, his hologram walking over to the group of 'fugitives' who had just entered the room. "I'll give you that."
