It's officially 2025 so here's chapter 25 (a complete coincidence btw)! With the holiday season officially over, I'm hoping to write a bit more consistently! :) For now

It's officially 2025 so here's chapter 25 (a complete coincidence btw)! With the holiday season officially over, I'm hoping to write a bit more consistently! :) For now... enjoy, and let me know what you think! <3

Sitting down the stack of bedpans she'd carried downstairs from the Evacuation Ward, Katherine turned on the faucet. Grabbing the sponge from the sink ledge, she lathered it with soap and went to work.

The day after the dance, she'd awoken to laundry duty – her Sunday afternoon passing in a blur of washing and drying and folding until the hospital's linen closets were fully stocked again. The weekend had given way to another busy week – so busy; she hadn't seen or spoken to Captain Hughes outside of mealtimes.

That hadn't stopped her mind from wandering though – memories from that night – their kiss - flashing through her mind on a nearly continual loop. She smiled softly to herself as she sat the first bedpan aside and grabbed a second. It had been hard to focus - hard to work - with those thoughts swirling in her head.

"I was hoping I might find you here," A voice spoke as hands snaked around her waist. She jumped, the bedpan she'd been scrubbing clattering into the sink as it slipped from her hand. "I'm sorry," Captain Hughes chuckled, the sound reverberating against her ear as he leaned in closer. "I didn't mean to startle you," He added, his lips soft against her skin.

"What are you doing?" Her eyes fluttered closed, the halfhearted objection dying on her lips as he pressed another kiss against her neck.

"What does it look like I'm doing?" He replied, his lips curving into a smirk as they continued planting feather light kisses against her skin.

"What if someone comes in?" She asked. Turning around in his arms, she faced him.

"Has anyone ever interrupted you before?" He arched a brow.

"Well, no..." She glanced at the door. "But-"

"Then why would they start now?" His fingers gripped her chin lightly, tilting her head back to look at him. She met his gaze, biting her cheek to keep from smiling at the mischievous glint his eyes held. Leaning down, he pressed his lips to hers, resting his forehead against hers as he pulled away. "I've missed you."

"You've seen me everyday this week," She laughed.

"You know what I mean."

She knew exactly what he meant. She'd missed him too - missed this.

"It's been busy," She gave a small shrug, her lips tilting up into a subtle smirk as he eyed her up and down.

"Well what about now?" He began, the mischievous look his eyes had held, returning. "Are you too busy, or can the bedpans wait?"

"That depends..." She arched a brow. Settling her gaze on the collar of his olive drab button down, she reached up and adjusted it. "What are you proposing I do instead?" Flicking her eyes up to his, her smirk widened.
