YOUR

knees are tucked up to your chest, and your breathing is even and calm. You're so at peace you could pass as being sound asleep—but really, you're just in a pretty good mood.

Your talk with Kurona really brightened things up for you. The thought of you being in so much control of your life—something you thought would never happen since the crash—it really does make you feel good. It's your life. It's always been.

You roll your head back and sigh deeply, but this time—with a smile. Your eyes follow the footage that is laid out in front of you, on your tablet screen.

Hiori got onto the field for the first time—good for him, you think with a happy grin—though, in place of Kiyora, who was promised to come on next. Him and Isagi seem to have an almost psychic connection, passing to each other effortlessly and connecting like two perfect pieces of a puzzle.

Their moves are so outstanding. That's all you can say. Your cheek falls into your hands and the bright lights off your tablet flicker in your irises like fireworks. Hiori's cyan hair—Isagi's deeply blue eyes, and the curve of the ball as Isagi shoots it into the goal with a perfectly precise pass from his new partner.

Your lips curve upwards into the most genuine of smiles.

Isagi's cheer—that you heard from all the way in the medical room—rings out loud as the whistle blows and signals the end of the game, and Isagi's gloriously winning goal. You're happy for him. You really, really are.

Your eyes just can't help but follow the cyan hair that belongs to Hiori, and they linger a little on his expression. The pure, unadulterated joy that has been brought by his monumental pass. He's smiling, so widely. You'd never seen such a look on his face during training, or any of his games before.

You wonder if perhaps he'd realised something too—just as you had—but you have no way of knowing. Whatever it was, you're happy for Hiori.

For somebody on the seeming opposite spectrum of wishing to play yet lacking the means to do so—Hiori really was somebody you felt you could connect to.

You close the pop-up video of the game a second before it flashes to Kaiser and his expression of pure malice. You begin to type out some notes, on Hiori's true style of play and Isagi's ability to produce flawless chemical reactions with him.

Time flies by when you're enthralled like this. Maybe this was your flow state, because the lights dim before you know it, and you're alone on the practice pitch.
