The weight of the looming conflict had never felt heavier. The days of quiet tension had bled into long, sleepless nights for Draven. His mind couldn't escape the ever-growing realization that there was something wrong—something not right about everything that had unfolded.Seraphina, the woman he had trusted with his life, stood by him, but the distance between them had grown unbearable. She was no longer the same woman he had fallen in love with. The darkness in her eyes, the coldness in her voice—it was like looking at a stranger.
They had fought together, side by side, through battles and betrayals, but now, everything seemed uncertain. The moment she walked into his private chambers, her presence felt like a storm, swirling and chaotic. She stood by the door, her figure outlined by the flickering torchlight.
"Seraphina," Draven spoke her name, his voice low but filled with an intensity that betrayed his inner turmoil. "We need to talk."
She didn't move for a moment, and then, with a quiet sigh, she crossed the room, her eyes meeting his. There was nothing playful in her gaze anymore. No warmth. Just cold, calculating emptiness.
"What is it, Draven?" she asked, her voice smooth but distant.
"You've been hiding something from me," he said, each word hanging in the air like a heavy sentence. "I know it."
Her lips twitched, but she didn't respond immediately. Instead, she leaned against the wall, her arms crossed, as if trying to distance herself from him—emotionally, physically.
"Why won't you just tell me the truth, Seraphina?" His voice cracked, the raw vulnerability threatening to break through. "After everything we've been through, everything we've shared... why are you still lying?"
There was a long silence. Draven's heart thundered in his chest as he waited for her response. Her hesitation only deepened his suspicions. He could see the struggle in her eyes, the war between guilt and denial.
"I never wanted you to know," Seraphina murmured finally, her voice barely a whisper. "But the time has come."
Draven's pulse quickened. "The time for what? What are you hiding?"
Seraphina closed her eyes, her breath shaky as she tried to steady herself. "It's not something I'm proud of... but I have to tell you."
Draven stepped forward, reaching for her, but she pulled away. The space between them felt wider than ever. "What's going on, Seraphina? You're scaring me."
Her gaze flickered to the floor, then back to his eyes. "Draven, I... I was never who you thought I was. I never wanted to hurt you. I wanted to be with you, truly... but I was caught in something far bigger than myself."
The words hit him like a punch to the stomach. His mind raced, confusion overwhelming him. "What do you mean? Who have you been working for?"
Seraphina looked away, and for a moment, it seemed like she was fighting an internal battle. She finally spoke, her voice filled with regret. "I've been working for the enemy, Draven."
Draven's heart stopped. His eyes widened as the magnitude of her confession hit him. He couldn't believe it. Seraphina, the woman he loved—had been working against him all along? His chest tightened, the betrayal settling in like a cold weight.
"How could you?" His voice shook with disbelief. "After everything we've shared... you've been lying to me from the start?"
She shook her head, her eyes full of tears. "No, Draven. I didn't want to. I thought I could change things, I thought I could protect you, protect us... but I was only a pawn in their game."
Draven stepped back, as if the air had been sucked from his lungs. "Who's behind this? Who's been using you?"
Her lips trembled, and she whispered the name that would shatter everything. "It was my father... King Alistair."
Draven's world tilted on its axis. The name echoed in his mind, each syllable like a dagger to his heart. King Alistair, the ruler of a neighboring kingdom—he had always been a figure of intrigue and power, but Draven had never suspected he would be the one pulling the strings. The pieces began to fall into place, but they felt like shards of glass, each one more painful than the last.
"You've been working with him this entire time?" Draven's voice was thick with anger and disbelief. "And you never told me? You let me believe that we were fighting for the same cause?"
Seraphina nodded slowly, her eyes full of sorrow. "I never wanted it to be this way, Draven. I thought... I thought I could fix things, that I could protect you from him. But my father had too much power. The things I did, the lies I told... they were all to keep him from hurting you."
A chill ran down Draven's spine. His entire existence felt like it was collapsing, and the woman standing before him—his Seraphina—had been the catalyst for his downfall. The woman he had trusted more than anyone had betrayed him in the worst possible way.
"I loved you," Draven said, his voice raw. "I trusted you with my life. And this is how you repay me?"
Seraphina's eyes filled with tears, and her voice broke. "I never wanted to hurt you. I never wanted any of this... but my father, he's dangerous. He promised me everything, and I believed him."
Draven's chest ached, but the anger began to rise, boiling inside of him. "You should have told me the truth, Seraphina. You should have trusted me enough to come to me. Now everything is ruined."
For a long moment, they stood there, the distance between them palpable. Draven felt as if the very foundation of his life had been ripped out from under him. His eyes bore into hers, searching for any sign of the woman he had fallen in love with—any trace of the kindness, the warmth, the loyalty she had once shown him.
But it was gone. And what remained was the reality of what she had become.
"We don't have time for this," Draven finally said, his voice cold and controlled. "I have a kingdom to protect. A war to fight. I can't have you at my side anymore. Not after this."
Seraphina flinched as if he had struck her. "Draven, please..."
"No," he cut her off, his eyes hard. "You made your choice the moment you decided to betray me. I can't forgive you for this."
Seraphina reached out to him one last time, her hand trembling, but he stepped back, shaking his head. "No. This ends now."
As Draven turned and walked away, the weight of the truth hung heavily between them. The love they had shared, the passion, the connection—everything was now tainted by betrayal. And Seraphina, the woman he had trusted, had chosen her father and her kingdom over him.
But Draven had a duty to the people he swore to protect. And now, that was all that mattered. The woman who had once been everything to him was lost—her choices had sealed their fate.
And with that, the final blow was dealt.
