The mantras were being recited one after another, followed by the soft murmurs of the guests who were busy gossiping about the ongoing function in the Malhotra mansion
"Aap dono phere ke liye khade hojaye" the priest informed to the couple seated infront of him in the mandap.
Hearing him, the bride slowly rose on her feet baffled at the groom's ignorant nature.
"Aarav" nudging his shoulder gently, the bride muttered.
"Y-yeah" seeming to be shaken from his bubble, Aarav replied to his bride who was already on her feet.
Cautiously, he too got up from his seat and gave a brief nod to the priest indicating him to continue the remaining rituals.
After the completion of the pheras, they both again retreated to their previous spots doing the things said by the priest now and then.
"Aab baar badhu ke maang mein sindoor daale" Aarav who was attentively listening to him, froze momentarily reminiscing the old memories.
A familiar feeling hit his guts, trailing a dangerous tremble off his soul.
Naina, too oblivious of his behaviour turned her head back at his mother and hers too, seeking guidance.
As soon as they caught her looking, they marched hurriedly towards the mandap trying to fix the situation.
Aarav who was completely drenched in his bubble failed to notice his mother and mother-in-law by his side.
Then slowly, Avantika rose her hands with the sindoor box on her hand forwarding it till it reaches the eye level of Aarav.
His tear filled gaze landed on his mother who gave him an assuring smile with a little squeeze on his shoulder by her free hand, encouraging him to follow her directions.
With slight hesitancy, he picked up a pinch of sindoor between his fingers glaring down at Naina who returned his gift.
In a swift, his fingers crossed the distance between them and her forehead filling her hairline with the holy red symbol.
A symbol which screams that she has become his.
A little bit of sindoor also fell in her nose making her frown. She was halfway to rub it off but a hand caught her in mid-way.
"Usko rehene do beta. Yeh sanket karta hai ki tumhara pati tumshe kitna pyaar karta hai" her mother spoke, choosing her words carefully.
Naina perplexed by the myth shook her head in disbelief and let out a sigh.
"Pyaar aur mujhse? Mumma expectations bhi toh situation dekh kar rakha kijiye" she mumbled to herself glancing at her half-husband from the corner of her eyes.
"Dekh tak nahi rahe hai janab, jese meine koi karz lekar nalautaya ho aur pyaar ki umeed hai sabko, wah Naina teri naiya toh chalne se pehle dubegi" she added further, noticing the stiffness of the man beside her.
