Nivaansh pov :
When I returned from the student accommodation office, I spotted Adhyudha and Shriyan waiting under a tree. "We got room number 123," I said as I approached them.
Adhyudha raised an eyebrow. "Finally sorted?"
"Yeah," I replied, holding the paper for them to see. "Had to stand in line forever, but it's done."
Shriyan stood up, brushing off his jeans. "Alright, let's go see what this room's like."
I nodded, and we started walking toward the dorm together, feeling a little relieved that at least one thing was now settled.
As we walked back to the dorm, I kept fiddling with the room allocation slip in my hand. Adhyudha and Shriyan were casually chatting about something, but I wasn't paying attention.
Out of nowhere, a guy walked up to us, a wide grin on his face. "Hey! You guys new here too?"
Before I could respond, a sharp pain shot through my head like someone had jabbed a needle right between my temples.
A thought, sharp and clear, cut through my mind: "They better not be in the same dorm as me. I don't want to share space with loud idiots."
I blinked, startled, and glanced at the guy. His grin was still in place, but there was no way he had just said that aloud.
"We're heading to room 123. What about you?" Adhyudha said
The guy laughed. "Oh, I'm in a different block. Just wanted to say hi!"
The guy had barely turned to leave when I called out, "Oye, sunna! What did you just say?"
The guy stopped, turning back with a confused smile. "Huh? I just said hi, man."
"No, no," I insisted, stepping closer. "You said something else. About not wanting to share space with loud idiots. Kya bola tha?"
Shriyan and Adhyudha froze. Shriyan's hand flew to his face, muttering, "Bas ab izzat ka falooda ban gaya."
Shriyan grabbed my arm, whispering harshly, "Bhai, kya kar raha hai? Pehle din se psycho mat lag!"
The guy scratched his head, still smiling nervously. "Uh, I didn't say anything like that. Are you feeling okay?"
I narrowed my eyes at him, ignoring Shriyan and Adhyudha's groans of embarrassment. "Are you sure you didn't think—uh, I mean, say anything else?"
Now even he looked weirded out. "Bro, I don't even know you. Why would I say something like that?"
Adhyudha quickly stepped in, laughing awkwardly. "Ignore him, Heat stroke lag gaya hai. First-day stress, you know how it is."
Shriyan clapped my shoulder hard. "Chal, Nivaansh, room dekhte hain. Hostel ke AC mein baith, dimaag thanda kar."
The guy nodded, clearly done with us, and walked off faster than before.
Adhyudha shook his head, grinning despite himself. "College ki shuruat aur already Sherlock Holmes banna chalu kar diya. Relax."
I rubbed the back of my neck, still confused but feeling slightly guilty. "I swear, I heard him say it!"
Shriyan tilted his head, smirking. "You sure you didn't just imagine it? Or maybe the headache knocked something loose?"
"Or," Shriyan said, trying to suppress a laugh, "you've unlocked some weird psychic ability. Congrats, Professor N."
I rolled my eyes but couldn't shake the unease. Maybe I was imagining things. Maybe I'd overheard him muttering under his breath. Or maybe—just maybe—there was something seriously wrong with me.
