you adjusted your glasses and focused on the board in the front of the big lecture hall, your notebook filled with diagrams and notes.

your phone was tucked away in your bag, silenced as always during class.

a strange feeling of unease settled in your stomach. it wasn't the stress of finals. no, it was different. you shook her head, trying to push it away.

then, the door creaked open.

the large door to the lecture hall creaked opened. every instinct in your body told you to look, even as your rational mind told you it was just someone arriving late. but when you glanced up, your pen froze.

jeno stood in the doorway.

his sharp features softened only when he spotted you, his smirk faint but there. he walked with his usual walk, the kind of confidence that made people avert their gaze. tattoos peeked out from the collar of his hoodie, and you swore you saw a faint limp in his stride as he made his way towards you.

gasps rippled through the hall as students whispered behind their hands. jeno ignored them all, his focus solely on you.

"can i help you young man?" the professor said, clearly irritated.

"nah," jeno answered, his head nodding towards the door as he held eye contact with you.

you grabbed your bag, shouldering it awkwardly as you hurried to meet him in the aisle. you were quick to grab his arm, dragging him towards the door and out of the lecture hall.

"i had to see you, y/n." he said as soon as the lecture hall door shut, his voice low but steady. the couple stood in the quiet hallway, your concern growing the more you stared at him.

"are you okay? what's wrong?" you had worry written all over your expression, your hand lifting to brush his cheek.

"got shot earlier." jeno mumbled, almost as if when he said it, you were gonna yell at him.

the words slammed into you like a bus. "what?"

"i'm fine," he added quickly, smirking again, but you could see the pain on his face.

"collarbone. it's nothing serious. i wanted you to hear it from me, not my guys."

"jeno!" you whispered harshly, clutching his arm as though to physically hold him together. "why didn't you call? or go to a hospital?"

"i called. your phone's off," he said. his tone was casual, but there was something softer beneath it. he wasn't mad, he just wanted you to know why he was here. "and hospitals ask too many questions."

before you could process what he was saying, a voice interrupted them.

"hey, y/n," said a guy who was sitting in your row. he approached hesitantly, holding out a notebook. "i was just wondering if you wanted the notes from class. you seem, uh, busy."

you blinked, startled by the intrusion. jeno's gaze sharpened instantly, his body shifting as if to shield you.

"she's good," jeno said flatly, his voice cold.

the guy's smile faded, and he looked nervously between you and jeno. "oh. um, okay. just thought i'd offer." he began walking backwards, your voice stopping him.

"thank you, that was sweet of you." you smiled, the boy smiling back as he shuffled away.

"was that necessary, jeno?" deji muttered, tugging jeno toward the exit.
