?─────??The Mercave??─────?

Start from the beginning

Noon is slowly rolling around, and I can't help but check my watch every few minutes to make sure. I can't stop thinking of that dream.

I had spent the morning hanging out with Mabel and jotting down a few things in my notebook to ask (Y/N) about Sirens later. It seemed so oddly familiar. That could have just been my mind trying to paint a picture of something I've never seen though.

"What's on your mind, Brobro?" Mabel asks with a tilt of her head. I shake off my worried thoughts.

"Nothing, just had a weird dream about Mermaids last night." I half lie to my twin while folding up a scrap bit of paper into a flick football. It wasn't nothing, but how I described the contents of my dream was accurate enough. Once done, I flick the paper football at her, and we both laugh. I make my hands look like football goalposts while she readies to flick it back.

"Mermaids, huuuuh?" She says teasingly, and I brace myself for what was coming. "Aaaany reason why that would happen?" She raises and lowers her eyebrows a few times repeatedly, and I cross my arms.

"Yeah." I say shortly. "There haven't been enough adventures this summer, so my brain is making them for me." I grumble, feeling a bit bad at lying to Mabel. She can't know about (Y/N) just yet. I'm not ready for that. The paper football hits me in the forehead, and I laugh lightly.

"Y'know, Brobro, if you want an adventure, we can go see McGucket later. I'm sure he'll have something for us to do." She offers gently as she stands.

I stand up too. "Sounds good." I smile.

"Great, I'll tell the Grunkles. Awkward sibling hug?" She holds her arms out.

"Awkward sibling hug." I agree, hugging her lightly. We then both do robot impressions as we pat each other's backs.

     "Pat, pat."

She pulls back and steals my hat. "Now, I don't know where you've been going every day, but I'll respect your secret. For now." I freeze slightly, rubbing the back of my neck.

     "You noticed that, huh?"

"Yup, and I also found out that you always leave at Noon, so you better get goin' sucka!" She says as she throws my hat. I run and catch my hat, checking my watch to see that Mabel was right.

"Oh! Okay, see you later Mabel!" I wave goodbye to her and run out of the house, off into the woods.

I head to the pier, finding (Y/N) already sitting there, waiting for me. I still feel a little on edge because of that weird dream, so my voice is embarrassingly cracky. "H-HeY, (Y/N)." I say, sitting down next to the Mermaid.

"Hey Dipper!" She smiles brightly. "Just so you know, we won't be sitting here today, I have something planned!" She cracks her knuckles. "Something special." I can count the points of her sharp teeth, and I can't help how my face warms.

'She's smiling with her teeth, it must not bother her after what I said yesterday.' I think to myself. "Okay, what are we doing?" My worry fades a bit, tilting my head to the side ever so slightly.

(Y/N) makes a sound of excitement and clasps her hands together. "I'm taking you to my cave! It's under the island, but I'll keep you safe, I promise!"

"U-Under the island?" I get a little nervous, crossing my legs. "I can't hold my breath that long, and aren't the.. S-Sirens under there?" I say shakily, remembering my dream from last night. "Besides, I know it's alive, I saw it a while ago. Is it safe?"
