Ayla's POV:
The van ride was a blur of confusion and discomfort. They had promised me it would be different, but the cold, sterile air that filled the vehicle made me question everything. I had accepted the invitation. Stupidly, maybe. But what else could I do? I'd stared at the card for hours, the white symbol taunting me, mocking my choices. The memories of the first game and the faces of those I'd seen fall flooded back.
When the gas took hold, my mind couldn't even fight it. I let it take me, the silence swallowing everything else. I woke in the dormitory once more. The same dingy room, the same cold atmosphere, the same glaring lights that felt too bright.
I glanced around the room. The other players were waking, disoriented but slowly coming to terms with the reality. I didn't know anyone, not really. The faces around me were the same, but the heaviness in their eyes was different. Something had shifted.
The guards greeted us as if nothing had changed. Their faces were unreadable behind the masks, but I could feel the tension in the air, thick and suffocating. My stomach churned, but I couldn't place why. Maybe it was the weight of what we had just gone through—or maybe it was something worse, something far darker.
As my gaze fell to the corner of the room, I saw the piggy glass case with the prize money. My heart stuttered as I noticed that the pile of money sat there, will grow larger with each death. The thought made me sick. But I couldn't look away.
I stood mechanically, not sure what to do, or even if I wanted to be there at all.
The murmur of the players began to swell around me. The room filled with noise—whispers, anxious glances, and the shuffling of feet. Player 456, the man I'd briefly noticed before, was talking with player 067, player 218, and player 199. I caught bits of their conversation, enough to know they were already forming some kind of alliance. But I couldn't bring myself to approach them.
Player 101, on the other hand, was standing in the center of the room, his presence commanding. His eyes scanned the room, sizing everyone up like he was already plotting who would fall next. He spoke to no one, and yet, there was an air of intimidation around him. It was hard not to feel the weight of his gaze.
"Don't mess with me," he muttered under his breath, but his words were meant for everyone in the room. His voice was dark, laden with warning.
And then, there was Player 212. Im surprised that she came back after crying that she he has an unnamed child waiting for her. She was already trying to cozy up to 101, like a cat looking for the sunniest spot to sit in. Her eyes gleamed with something I couldn't quite decipher. It wasn't just fear that drove her; there was something else, a hunger, maybe.
I pulled my attention away from the group, deciding to keep my distance. Watching. That's all I could do for now. After eating the meal we all went to bed when the lights went off , i was trying to sleep but i couldn't so i just ended up staring at the ceiling.
