"Nathearys Targaryen was
said to be one of the most
beautiful women to ever
walk the Seven Kingdoms.
But even beauty couldn't save
her from the burdens of duty.
For a time, her light was
dimmed by the weight
of her name."

— Jon Snow, 300 AC,
Winterfell, to Samwell Tarly

xxiii. the word "yes" has led
me to a nightmare

THE DAYS SEEM TO pass slower, quieter, and more depressing. The young Targaryen was growing thinner and thinner, despite the Green Queen's scolding.

She refused to eat, as if she were truly planning to starve herself. Her body, once full of vitality, was becoming more fragile and brittle, but her spirit seemed even more distant, trapped in a labyrinth of despair and sadness.

It became increasingly difficult to pretend and smile when her father asked her something about the wedding, to pretend that this was her wish. Despite her mother's kind words, the smiles she tried to offer, Nathearys felt her soul crumbling with every lie she spoke.

The thought of a future with Aemond suffocated her, but she couldn't let her father know, she couldn't allow him to suffer for what she was feeling. The days stretched on, and the weight of the lie dragged her even deeper.

Lorcan could only look at her with growing concern, not knowing what to do to ease her suffering. He had been sleeping in the young Targaryen's room, a constant shadow by her side. He felt the need to care for her even more, though he didn't know how to do so without crossing the invisible barriers she had placed around herself.
