Nandini stood motionless, the weight of his words pressing down on her chest like a suffocating force. Her heart shattered with every passing second, the man she cared was asking her to leave, to walk away from everything they had built together.
The shock was so intense, she couldn't breathe, couldn't process. Every step she took towards the closet, every piece of clothing she grabbed, felt like a betrayal to everything she had believed in.
She heard Manik's voice behind her, weak, a mere shadow of the man who had always been her anchor. His voice trembled, and it broke her even more.
She could feel his gaze, the pain behind it, but she couldn't bring herself to look at him. Not now. She couldn't. Not when every word from him felt like a knife through her heart.
"Nandini..."
For a moment, she froze. His voice, so fragile, so full of regret made her chest ache. But she couldn't allow herself to give in. Not now. Not when she was drowning in her own anger and pain.
Slowly, Nandini lifted her head to face him, her eyes red with tears, but the anger that burned behind them was even fiercer. Her fists clenched by her sides, the hurt so raw it felt like a wound that would never heal.
"Nandini, voh mai,..." Manik started, his voice barely above a whisper, but the words trailed off. He seemed unsure, lost in his own turmoil, unable to articulate what he had done.
She took a deep breath, a mixture of fury and heartbreak bubbling inside her. Her voice came out sharp, cutting through the silence that had built between them like a wall.
"Rehene dijiye aap," she snapped, her words thick with anger and pain.
Her words echoed in the room, bitter and final. She didn't wait for him to respond, didn't give him a chance to explain, because in that moment, she couldn't take any more.
Every fiber of her being screamed at her to stay, to fix it, but the wound he had opened inside her was too deep.
Before they could even speak a word further they heard a knock on the door. Nandini breathed as she wiped her tears and walked to open the door.
Nandini blinked away the remnants of her tears, trying to compose herself before she opened the door. She hadn't expected anyone else to show up, but there stood Priya, her face full of concern, her eyes scanning Nandini with the care of someone who had seen the cracks forming and the pain in her heart.
"Nandini, tum thik ho?" Priya asked, her voice soft, almost hesitant, as she gently took hold of Nandini's trembling hand.
Nandini swallowed hard, nodding even though her heart felt like it was breaking into pieces with every passing second. "I'm... fine," she said, her voice thin, the words feeling like a lie.
She could feel the heaviness of her emotions pressing down on her chest again, but she fought to keep them at bay.
"I am so sorry," Priya continued, her eyes full of sympathy. "Voh jo bhi Hriday uncle ne kaha... that was wrong. He didn't mean it, Nandini. Please, don't take it to heart."
Nandini shook her head slightly, as if trying to dispel the weight of Priya's words. It wasn't about Hriday's words anymore. It wasn't about anyone else in the house. It was about what Manik had said, about the hurt that had been buried deep inside her by his actions, words, and silence.
Priya sensed the turmoil in Nandini, her worried gaze flickering over to where Manik stood in the background, his posture hunched, his face pale, the guilt almost suffocating him.
"Jo bhi hua, it's all quiet normal in this house," Priya continued, her voice gentle but firm. "They keep fighting, but you have to know... don't take anything to heart. Manik, tu bhi sambhal khudko." She turned her attention to him briefly, her words soft but filled with meaning.
