Serpies also have much sharper teeth than humans do. Humans' teeth are not designed to tear through flesh that is living or bones— humans are able to chew up food, but biting through harder substances proves difficult. A serpie's tooth is much sharper than the average human tooth, and these teeth are designed to tear through flesh dually— they create a wound when they bite, and if their prey tries to leave while the serpie feeds, the sharpness of the teeth will open additional wounds and enlarge the other wounds made.

Another detail of serpies is that their ears are different from humans' — their ears are slightly pointed and tend to have outward, tiny extensions. These ears tend to hear more clearly than human ears when underwater, hence their need to be present so that serpies are able to communicate verbally and by sound.

The last details include gills, webbed hands, and webbed feet. Serpies bear gills— it's how they breathe underwater. For some serpies, it's more visible— this usually appears visible with piscine serpies, not the serpies related to cephalopods and crustaceans. For the latter two, their manner of breathing is more hidden due to the gills not being as visible.

Serpies vary in their abilities. Not all share the same powers, but generally speaking, there are a few abilities that are particularly common in serpies, the first ones being similar to what sirens use to draw in humans to the deep.

A serpie's glow was previously mentioned to draw more attention to other species than to serpies themselves; this is because the glow tends to work as a sort of hypnosis that draws others' attention. However, this does not work on serpies, and serpies only view the glow as something beautiful gifted to them, something that helps them spot others of their kin if they are lost.

To humans, though, the glow has an odd function that convinces them to go near. Their senses are dulled until they feel that they can't be in touch with their surroundings, giving them mild headaches if they stare for too long. A human who stares for too long will begin to have their eyesight blur until they tear their sight from the serpie. It's in these moments of disorientation that serpies take the advantage and feed, mixing the sensations of loss of sensory and ability to detect external surroundings, pain of headaches, and blurred sight with the pain of the bite to ensure that once they finish feeding, the prey will have recovered and lack memory of the event.

Another ability of serpies, although this one is rarer, is a vocal allure called a chant, the one closest to the typical siren tactic. Certain serpies have the ability to reduce the mental resistance someone has to their voice, making the targeted individual more susceptible and willing to accept commands from the serpie.
