After everything that had happened, everyone had stayed very close together, interacting on a daily basis. Will, Mike, El, Dustin, Lucas, Max, Robin, Steve, Nancy, and Johnathon were inseparable. Even Hopper and Joyce stayed close to the kids, not wanting to risk losing any of them again, with Vecna still being alive. All of them wary and watchful, each worrying about each other.

Robin, Steve, Nancy, and Johnathon worked together in the local bookstore, much to Steve's chagrin. Even though, Steve was still holding out on the hope that someday Nancy would choose him again. But until then, he was just glad she was happy and being kept safe.

As far as appearances go, everyone looked healed and happy. However, as time progressed, not everyone was doing as well as they appeared to be. El was having nightmares every night, Max had severe PTSD, Will felt like he was tripping all the time, Lucas was being beyond watchful of Max, Dustin was calling in red alerts every other day, Johnathon was being annoyingly clueless, and Robin seemed to be fine. Steve, however, had physically healed, but after all the drugs and beatings, he was starting to feel like he wasn't going to survive Vecna again.

He was on break at work, hiding behind the bookstore so he could smoke in silence. He had given up everything else, but smoking seemed to help his nerves but did nothing to ease his anxious mind.

"You know, cigarettes will kill you." Robin said, after looking for the young adult all over the store, and only found him after a minor anxiety attack.

"Yeah, yeah, I know," Steve said, looking even more exhausted than usual.

"Then why are you using them, Dingus?" Robin asked with an amused look, hoping to earn a smile or something.

"They calm my nerves, okay?" Steve grumbled, putting out the cigarette he had only just started smoking, and walked back inside the bookstore through the back door.

"Well, they make you stink." Robin commented, not really bothering to hide her disgust of the smell. When he didn't respond, she frowned, wondering what was wrong with her best friend now. "Are you okay, Steve?" She persisted, following him inside.

"Yeah, I'm fine." Steve said in a dismissive tone, moving to organize a pile of books he had been working on before his break. He didn't want to admit that he wasn't feeling well: he was dizzy and lightheaded off and on, his appetite was so far gone he barely ate anything, he was having nightmares and night terrors every night leading to feeling constantly exhausted, and now he was starting to feel less and less energy.

Robin frowned, knowing something was up, but wasn't able to push the issue because Will, Lucas, Dustin, Max, El, and Mike walked in, locked in a heated debate about something DND related. "What do you crazies want now? You bought all DND books weeks ago." She said, sounding bored and uninterested.

"We know," El said, looking over at Steve in concern. She watched him in silence, worrying about what was wrong, when he suddenly stumbled, a low groan following as he banged his head on one of the many bookshelves. "Steve? Are you okay?" She asked, the panic in her voice catching all of their attention, as Mike rushed to Steve's side to help steady him.

"I am fine," Steve repeated in a pained voice, his hand bracing his head where it was bleeding a bit.

"Blood..." El pointed out in concern, pulling Steve's hand away from the bloody spot, as if to prove her point to the older young man.
