The breaking point

The city felt so distant, its lights flickering like forgotten memories. Leng and Ohm stood on the bridge, their silhouettes framed by the cold, indifferent sky. The wind was harsh, but nothing compared to the chill that had settled in their hearts. The world around them was silent, but in their minds, the noise of rejection, judgment, and unspoken fears screamed louder than ever.

Leng looked at Ohm, his gaze trembling as he tried to steady his breath. His thoughts were a mess, his emotions a tangle of pain and confusion. For a moment, he wondered if he could just disappear into the night and forget it all. But he couldn't. Not when the love he felt for Ohm was both his salvation and his torment.

"Was losing you my fate, or my fault?" Leng’s voice cracked, the question hanging heavy in the air. "Was loving you my cure, or my curse?"

Ohm’s heart twisted at the words. He didn’t know how to answer, because in his own heart, he felt the same way. But what could he say? What could they say when the world had decided that their love wasn’t worth fighting for?

With a shaky exhale, Ohm stepped closer, his eyes locking with Leng’s, raw and vulnerable. “What if loving you is the only thing that feels right in a world that tells me it’s wrong?”

Leng’s eyes filled with unshed tears as he held Ohm’s gaze, searching for the answer they both needed. But there was no easy answer. There was only the reality that they were trapped, not by their love, but by the world around them that couldn’t accept it.

“I don’t want to lose you, Ohm,” Leng whispered, his voice trembling. “But I can’t keep pretending everything will be okay. We’re never going to be accepted. Not by our parents, not by society. It feels like we’re fighting a battle we can never win.”

Ohm swallowed hard, fighting back the tears that threatened to fall. “I know. But I don’t want to let you go. I don’t want to live in a world where I’m not with you. You’re all I’ve ever wanted.”

They stood in silence, the weight of their shared pain too much to bear. Leng had always been the strong one, the one who held things together, but right now, he felt like he was unraveling. His heart ached, not just for himself, but for Ohm—because he knew that Ohm was hurting just as much, if not more.

“I don’t know what’s worse,” Leng murmured, looking out at the horizon, “the fact that I can’t be with you the way I want to, or that I can’t change the world for us.”

Ohm reached out, gently taking Leng’s hand in his. The touch was a lifeline in the storm of their emotions. “We can’t change the world, Leng,” he said softly. “But we can change each other. Even if the world doesn’t accept us, I’ll still love you. That’s the only thing I know for sure.”

Leng squeezed his hand, the warmth of Ohm’s touch grounding him. “But what if it’s not enough?” he whispered. “What if we’re just fooling ourselves?”

“Then we’re fools together,” Ohm replied with a small, bitter laugh, trying to lighten the mood, but his eyes still held the sadness of a thousand unsaid words. “But I’d rather be a fool with you than without you.”

They were two souls, bound by a love that seemed impossible, yet so real. The city stretched out beneath them, indifferent to their pain. But at that moment, it felt like they were the only two people in the world, standing on the edge, trying to hold on to something that might be slipping through their fingers.

Leng’s mind raced, the question still hanging in the air, unanswered. Was losing you my fate, or my fault? He didn’t know. But one thing was clear—loving Ohm had changed him. It had made him question everything he once thought was true. It had been both his salvation and his curse. And now, standing on this bridge, he didn’t know if he could keep going.

“Maybe we were never meant to be together in this world,” Leng said, the words heavy with finality. “Maybe this was always going to end like this. Maybe I was never meant to be loved the way I love you.”

Ohm’s heart cracked at those words, but he couldn’t let Leng fall into that darkness. “No, Leng. Don’t think like that. We may not have control over the world, but we have control over what we feel for each other. And that’s real. That’s enough.”

Leng shook his head, tears streaming down his face now. “But it’s not enough, Ohm. Not when it feels like we have to fight for every moment we have together. Not when we’re surrounded by a world that doesn’t even see us as human.”

The wind howled around them, as if echoing their inner turmoil. They stood together in silence, both of them broken in different ways. The love they shared, so pure and true, had been tainted by the cruelty of the world they couldn’t change. They had done everything they could to hold on, but now... it felt like it wasn’t enough.

“Maybe it’s better if we just let go,” Leng whispered, his voice barely audible above the wind. “Maybe it’s better if we stop pretending we can change everything.”

Ohm looked at him, his eyes full of pain and regret. “But if we let go... if we give up now... then everything we’ve been through, everything we’ve fought for, it would be for nothing.”

Leng stepped closer to him, his body shaking. “Maybe nothing matters anymore, Ohm. Maybe we’re just fighting a losing battle. But even so, I want you to know that I love you. I’ve always loved you, and I always will.”

Ohm cupped Leng’s face, his thumb brushing away the tears. “I love you too, Leng. And I always will.”

For a moment, they stood there, together, their hearts beating in unison. They knew the world would never accept them, but in each other, they had found something pure and real. And maybe that was enough. Maybe it was all they needed.
