ACT TWO
chapter nine

Everyone collectively rushes for Quinn's room, stilling in front of her closed door when her screams come to a stop. With their hearts in their throats, it's Chloe who braves stepping forward, about to reach for the handle when it twists open from the inside and Dakota hurriedly tugs her back in line with the others. Quinn comes tumbling out, her limp and bloody body thrown unceremoniously onto Anika, who ends up falling flat on her back at her unsuspecting weight.

She's screaming, staring at Quinn corpse while Chad and Tara grab onto each other's arms and run for the front door. "Guys, come on!"

Chloe grabs onto Dakota too, despite the dirty blonde far too occupied with getting Sam to go with them but Chloe doesn't relent, tugging her out the door after the two college students. Dakota yanks her arm out of Chloe's grip, and instead of following Tara and Chad down the stairs for the building's exit, she takes off across the landing for their apartment, where Malia just so happens to be walking out of their front door, her phone in hand.

The poor girl lets out a shriek when Dakota accidentally crashes into her, not even apologising as she pushes through into their hallway, yelling out, "The ladder! Where's the ladder?"

"Dakota-?" Chloe questions breathlessly, coming to a stop just before their apartment's threshold, trying to recatch her breath.

"We need to save them!" Dakota pants desperately, eyes glossed over, and movements frantic as she searches every which way for the ladder the worker guys that did Chloe and Dakota's rooms left behind months ago.

"What?" Malia stares at the two of them wide-eyed.

"Ghostface is in Sam's apartment with her, Mindy and Anika still inside! We have to help them!"

"Oh my God." Malia gasps, eyes growing wider.

That's when Dakota starts throwing things in her flurried search, a vase smashing on the floor at her careless manoeuvrers.

"The ladder, Malia. Where's the ladder?" Chloe asks her calmly.

"Um," Malia gives a shaky point to their broom closet, and Chloe yanks the door open, almost taking it off its hinges.

Dakota shoves the tall woman to the side to grab it herself, legs almost buckling under the awkward weight of the metal. Chloe almost scoffs at her lack of manners, but nonetheless helps her by grabbing the other end of the ladder and follows her through into Dakota's bedroom.

"Check the window." Dakota order's Malia, who does as she's bid, albeit confused and shaking.

She lets out a gasp, pressing her palms against the window, "They're in Sam's room! He's trying to get in!"

"Open the window, hurry!" Chloe speaks, what Dakota's planning, finally making sense.

After waving to get someone's attention in the room opposite them, Malia slides the window up, and Chloe and Dakota move to get the ladder through the gab and over to Sam's bedroom window, where the very woman is reaching to grab onto the free end and hurry their rescue along.
