We're Not Dead Yet, Right?
We were dead. We were goners. What were we supposed to do?
A loud honk blasted through the rain, and I looked through the trees to see a train heading towards us. Right under our bridge. Could we...
Ashlyn muttered something, then turned to us. "Guys, the train-"
"We are NOT jumping on a train!" Tyler yelled.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As the cold ran mercilessly slammed into my already soaked body, I saw the cops pointing their guns at us from their cars. They wouldn't shoot. They needed us alive... right?
My chocolate eyes drifted to Logan's thin, shaking form. He kept the pistol pointed at the cops, daring them to surround us. Daring them to get closer.
"WELL, if you've got a better plan, then you take the lead, because we're clearly about to be caught!" the leprechaun yelled.
Tyler yelled right back, as always. "I DON'T CARE! At least we'll still be alive if we're caught. We'll find a new way out!"
I glanced at Taylor, Ben, and Aiden, who were also just staring at the two. They argued like a divorced couple.
Without warning, Aiden grabbed the back of Tyler's shirt, dragging him towards the bridge. I would've laughed if the situation was less serious. "We're jumping on the train."
"NO!" Tyler yelled, flailing as Aiden dragged him. "YOU'RE JUST ON AN ADRENALINE HIGH, YOU PSYCHO, LET ME GO!"
Aiden paused, suddenly grinning at nothing.
I glanced at the cops, who were slowly surrounding us. I'm sure it was an amusing thing to watch, just a couple of insane kids yelling and arguing over jumping on a train.
That or my humor was messed up.
Or both.
Aiden dropped Tyler onto the ground, his grin faded. "...maybe we shouldn't."
Tyler jumped up, brushing himself off. "FINALLY, some COMMON SENSE!"
"Shut up," the blonde said. Although his voice lacked conviction. "No one is talking to you."
I took a step forward, sensing something was wrong, but a weak voice drifted through the pouring rain. "But... I don't see how else to get out of this..." Ashlyn whispered the last part, but everyone heard it.
I frowned, lightly taking Ashlyn's hand fisting her soaked, white shirt. I made my voice clear, honestly tired and annoyed. "If we go back, we won't have Alex, Ryan, or the Mafia. They'll know we can move around at night and take measures against it. We won't be able to escape again. It's better to be dead than to go back- all of us separated, not able to save our parents, and causing who-knows-how many deaths from the cult or the government. We have to escape and find help. Besides, the cops are closing in and calling for more people."
I ignored Aiden taking Ashlyn's other hand, and focused on the others.
Silence overtook our group, and I felt Aiden try and look me in the eye as he spoke. "We're jumping on the train."
"STOP CHANGING YOUR MIND!"
I smiled, and squeezed Ashlyn's hand before dropping it. Taylor raised her hand, looking at the ground. "I say we take a group vote. I vote for jumping at well... since I also don't think we'll be able to escape again."
Logan nodded, moving closer, gun still pointed at the cops.

The group results:
Logan- YES
Ben- NO
Aiden- YES
Ashlyn- YES
Taylor- YES
Tyler- NO
Thaylar- YES
My brown hair whipped in the wind as I leaned over the bridge, Tyler and Taylor on my sides. I gulped, gripping the concrete like it was a lifeline.
I could do this.
We would escape.
Find help.
Get away from them.
From my right, Taylor laughed nervously. "It's going pretty fast, isn't it?"
I gripped my triplet's hands. Even though I'm sure that was everyone's thought process, Ashlyn said aloud, "We don't have time to second guess."
We all sat onto the concrete ledge, Logan quickly joining us. The rain slammed into us brutally, as if telling us not to jump. Even if we didn't survive, it's better than being their lab rats.
"Alright," I said, gripping my triplet's hands like a lifeline. "Let's pray we don't die."
Tyler's free hand dragged through his soaked brown hair. His hand gripped mine tight as well. "I can't believe this. Out of all the stupid things we've done, this has to be the absolute worst."
I smiled at him- or tried to. It felt strained.
"On the count of three," Ashlyn said. "One...
"Two...
"Three."
We jumped.
