The night arrived and Eleanor stepped into her childhood home—expecting an intimate dinner with her mother and sister only to be met with a loud cheer of surprise a fully decorated, packed house filled with friends, family, and Beyoncé.

Yes. Beyoncé. That Beyoncé.

Eleanor's mouth fell open as she reached for Kamala. "Baby, what the hell is Beyoncé doing in my childhood home?"

Kamala grinned, slipping an arm around Eleanor's waist. "Well, her and I are really good friends, and we needed entertainment tonight. Plus, I saw that poster in your room the other day."

Eleanor let out a breathless laugh, shaking her head in disbelief. "God, I really want to kiss you right now."

Kamala's smile softened. "Then do it, darling."

Eleanor hesitated, flicking her gaze around the room. "But—"

Kamala squeezed her waist reassuringly. "I made sure it was a phone-free event. No one can take videos, and all the film cameras will be handed back at the end of the night. It's only your friends and our families—it'll be fine. And if they haven't figured it out by now, well..."

Kamala didn't get the chance to finish her sentence. Eleanor's lips were on hers before she could get another word out—an excited, exhilarated kiss that made Kamala smile against her lips.

"Maybe I have to surprise you more often if you kiss me like that," Kamala chuckled leaving one last kiss on Eleanor's lips.

Eleanor was almost bouncing on her feet with excitement but she held back to greet her mom before she went to see her musical idol.

Eleanor practically skipped over to her mother, the curls she'd let loose for the evening bouncing with every step.

"Mommy!" she squealed, wrapping Stella in a tight hug. "Do you see who's here?!"

Stella chuckled, smoothing a hand down her daughter's back. "I already said hello, darling. She's absolutely lovely. And even more beautiful in person."

Eleanor pulled back, scandalized. "You spoke to her without me?!"

"Someone had to let her in, and Kamala was busy keeping you distracted," Stella replied with a knowing smile, brushing a stray curl from Eleanor's cheek. "Go say hello, darling, I'll be here all night,"

"And don't cry, Ellie," Kamala teased next to her.

"I don't cry." Eleanor rolled her eyes, and it was true, Kamala couldn't recall any time Eleanor had cried since they'd got together, apart from when she found out her mom was sick. She never cried over a long day, or a bad meeting.
