Carmen rested her chin in her hand. "Do you ever wonder if it's worth it?"
He didn't look up from the document he was reviewing.
"If what's worth it?"
She hesitated, fingers tracing the edge of the coffee cup in front of her.
"Fighting this hard. Putting so much of yourself into something that might not change anything."

"Every damn day. And the answer's always the same. If you're doing it for the right reasons, it's worth it. Even if it costs you."
