The sun had long since dipped below the horizon, casting warm tones across the castle walls as the evening settled around you. After dinner with Erwin and Hange, and the strange, fleeting glances Levi kept stealing across the table, you find yourself walking alongside him through the dim, winding halls of HQ. Neither of you speaks at first, but the silence isn't uncomfortable.
Eventually, the path leads you to the roof again. The same rooftop where you've shared stolen quiet moments and unspoken truths. The night air is crisp and smells faintly of smoke from the chimneys below. Stars prickle the sky like scattered ash.
You exhale slowly, your breath fogging slightly in the cold. The wind brushes your hair into your face, and you tuck it behind your ear with a faint smile. "So, herbal specialist."
Levi, standing beside you with his hands shoved into his pockets, gives a quiet grunt. "Happy?"
You nod, eyes fixed on the stars. "Of course. Kinda my dream."
There's a beat of silence before you glance sideways and catch the faintest curve of his lips.
"Is that a smile, Captain?" you tease, a smug grin curling at your mouth.
"Fuck off," he mutters, but there's no real bite. Just the usual gruff edge that's softened in your presence.
You take a slow breath, letting the pride settle in your chest. "Well, thank you. For helping me. I couldn't have done it without you."
He shrugs. "It's nothing. Just glad you might not die so easily now."
You laugh softly. "I guess our training days are up. You won't need to glue yourself to me now."
Levi doesn't answer right away. His gaze lingers on the city below, jaw tight. "You still have a long way to go."
"I think I'm fine."
He looks at you then, brow raised. "You don't want my help anymore?"
You pause, surprised by the flicker of something in his tone. "It's not that. I just don't want to take up any more of your time."
Levi shifts slightly, arms folding across his chest. "Well, I'd prefer it if I was to remain close to you. You're still on my squad after all."
You smirk. "Mm. You must love my company, sir."
"Tch, I wouldn't call it that. You talk too much."
A flicker of frustration rises in your chest, your smile fading slightly. "Well, what are we doing then?"
Levi goes still beside you. The kind of stillness that means something is brewing behind those unreadable eyes. Finally, he mutters, "I'm not sure. I just know I need to be near you."
Your breath catches.
He steps toward you, slow and measured. You can smell his breath, mint tea and something darker beneath it. Your heart pounds.
"Levi-"
He interrupts by closing the distance, drawing you in and pressing his lips against yours.
Holy shit, he's-
It's soft at first, tentative. His hands ghost over your waist but don't pull you closer, as though waiting for you to move first. You do.
Yep, you're kissing him. You're going to explode.
Your hand lifts to cup his cheek, fingers brushing the sharp line of his jaw. His skin is cold. He kisses you deeper, jaw shifting, lips parting. Then his tongue presses against your teeth, seeking entrance, and you give it.
