The gym buzzed with energy as students filled the stands, eagerly waiting for the big basketball match between their school and a rival team. Banners waved, cheers echoed, and the sound of sneakers squeaking against the polished court filled the air.
Cheng Xiaoshi stood among his teammates, stretching his arms and bouncing on his feet. This was his element—where he thrived. The game hadn’t even started yet, but his excitement was already through the roof.
Meanwhile, Lu Guang sat in the crowd, arms crossed as he observed the scene. Originally, he had planned to spend the day at the anime club, but something made him change his mind. Cheng Xiaoshi never specifically asked him to come, but… it felt important. So here he was, quietly watching from the bleachers.
The game tipped off, and from the start, it was clear the opposing team had a strong player—someone tall, fast, and skilled. He moved effortlessly, weaving through defenses and sinking shots with precision. But Cheng Xiaoshi?
He was even better.
With lightning speed and sharp reflexes, he dodged past defenders, easily outplaying his opponent. The crowd went wild every time he scored, and with every smooth layup and perfect assist, he proved why he was one of the best on the court.
As the final minutes ticked down, Cheng Xiaoshi made one last game-winning shot. The buzzer sounded. Their school had won.
The crowd erupted into cheers. His teammates rushed over, clapping him on the back, ruffling his hair. MVP. The announcers called his name, the students chanted it, and yet…
Cheng Xiaoshi was only looking for one reaction.
His eyes scanned the stands, searching until—there. Lu Guang sat in his spot, still as ever, but their eyes met for a brief moment.
Lu Guang looked away, slightly embarrassed. But then, he nodded.
That was all Cheng Xiaoshi needed. Satisfied.
After shaking hands with the other team and finishing the formalities, Cheng Xiaoshi jogged over to the stands, where Lu Guang was waiting.
Before Cheng Xiaoshi could say anything, Lu Guang held out a bottle of water.
“Here.”
Cheng Xiaoshi blinked. “Wait, you sure it's not coffee this time?”
“Drink before I change my mind.” Lu Guang replied, rolling his eyes.
Cheng Xiaoshi grinned, accepting it. But then, Lu Guang also handed him a small bag of snacks.
Cheng Xiaoshi raised a brow. “You… bought me snacks?”
Lu Guang crossed his arms, looking off to the side. “You just ran up and down the court for an hour. Don’t make a big deal out of it.”
Cheng Xiaoshi stared at him for a second before chuckling. He took a long sip of water and patted Lu Guang’s shoulder.
“You’re the best, you know that?”
Lu Guang sighed. “Just eat your snacks before you pass out.”
Cheng Xiaoshi laughed, tearing open the bag as they walked off together, the cheers from the gym still ringing in the air.
As they walked away from the gym, Lu Guang glanced at Cheng Xiaoshi, who was still munching on his snacks. After a moment, he asked, “So, do you have anything planned for the rest of the day? Do you need help with your studies?”
Cheng Xiaoshi waved a hand dismissively. “Nah, everything’s fine right now. The only thing I really need…” He grinned, looking directly at Lu Guang. “Is your company.”
