shoutout to all my single girlies out there and congrats if you have a partner. definitely not jealous.
These past few weeks have been the most tiresome, you've been needed at the office for hours after you're supposed to already be home, and you have practically no time to relax. Everything has been slipping your mind and you even forget to eat your meals sometimes, which makes you feel guilty since your girlfriend packs you homemade lunch. She often stays home when she's not in the studio or on tour, and she practically doesn't sleep at night anyway since her mind is always busy, so she binges cooking recipes on YouTube.
After yet another gruesome day spent slaving away at your desk, it gets even worse when you miss your train. All because you decided to get coffee at some cafe near your work, not realizing that it would take forever since it's a Friday. Now you'd have to wait another hour for the next stop, or find some other train that might take you to your destination. You're way too exhausted to try to find another one that takes the same path, so you call an Uber instead. Spending a bit of your hard-earned money on a ride home kinda hurts, but you just really wanna get home.
While waiting for your driver to arrive, you notice more couples out and about than usual, but don't think too much of it. Your phone dings, alerting you your ride has pulled up and you search for the license plate. It's a nice, white car with comfy seats. One good thing about this day was that the man driving was respectful and didn't bother you or try to make small talk, just purely doing his job. Maybe he was having a rough day too. The city lights are twinkling bright as the sky dims, and you can't help but marvel at the beauty of New York. Is it way too crowded for your liking? Yeah. A bit expensive and dirty too, maybe a bit unsafe, but the rush you felt from being there was incomparable. As if that wasn't enough, the love of your life loves this city, so of course you do too.
The trip is long and probably racking up a bill, but you thank him for driving late at night and finally step out onto those familiar streets. Blasts of cold air suddenly attack you, and you shiver as you shove your hands in your pockets and begin to speed walk. Every section of the sidewalk is bringing you one step closer to the place you call home, and you just can't wait. You don't know if your girlfriend is awake or not, her sleep schedule is a bit rough and hard to predict. Your apartment is relatively big, and it's a homey place that you could spend your whole life in if you both decided you wanted to stay. You pull out the keys from your bag and fumble to insert them into the lock, but finally open it and step into the warmth of your abode.
Instantly kicking your shoes off and tossing your bag onto the end of the couch that's by the door, you take a deep inhale. The place still smells new. You notice the lights are shut off, so she must be sleeping. You're so exhausted that you'll probably turn in for the night soon too, but first... you're hungry. Unbuttoning your coat as you saunter to the kitchen, you hum a tune, an unfinished, unpolished little song that your girl played for you a few nights ago. You flip the switch and the hanging ceiling lights flicker on, casting an incandescent glow throughout the open-spaced apartment. Something catches your eye as soon as the room lights up, a tupperware container on the counter, with a little note on it, written in red.
Gently tugging off the note, you hold it closer to you. It reads: "Hungry, babe? Welcome back, check the container. Love, T ♡︎"
You smile and feel giddy at the thought of her writing this out, she's always so sweet. There's a note only about half the time, and they're often just on sticky notes in random colors with a drawing of a smiley-face or a badly drawn star, so this is a bit different. The paper is nice and firm, like cardstock, and the red ink is vibrant against the white. Expecting food, you're a little bit surprised when you open the lid and find another note: "Follow the arrows!"
