"That is not our concern, Hanako. We aren't responsible for what they feel. Let alone you."
You could almost hear the words about to come out of her mouth, and you were sure it would be along the lines of you being a hypocrite, especially considering your actions during your second year at Teiko. And you were sure along with that, she would probably call you kind, a 'bleeding heart' even, that doesn't want to admit how soft they can be to maintain a strong exterior.
In human nature, it should be natural to want to receive such compliments. And usually, you would accept her words, even though you would respond to them with a snide, sarcastic remark that made her review seem wildly incorrect. But today, you didn't find it in you. Especially when that description could easily be applied to other alumni here.
And so, you took decisive action to stop it, your finger tapping onto the paper on Hanako's lap – a silent warning that she needed to hurry to due in the first half of Coach Chimon's assignment.
It was a purposeful action on your part, intended to allow her to redirect her focus away from the conversation. And, it had achieved exactly that, as she quickly scrawled down some last points before ripping a page from her binder.
In some way, the sound of paper separating from the metal spiral binding was reflective of how Hanako would probably forget what she had uttered. This conversation, though it unsettled you, would not be filed into her mind, especially considering how many other things you needed to remember as both students and budding athletes.
Now, your attention can finally turn to other matters. And that was finishing the last part of Coach Chimon's assignment.
If you had to summarise it, you would say that analysing Seirin would be far easier than Touou. Based on how you had seen Seirin's unsuccessful attempts to stop Touou, especially with the addition of Aomine, there was only one way you could describe the school of black, white and red.
The simplest way that you could put it was that Seirin was a 'dream team'. And you were saying this mockingly, and not with the intent to compliment them.
Their team was the sort that is talked about in the media and draws people to the sport. Unlike the term's inclusion of the word 'dream', it's not to say that there weren't many basketball teams like that. In fact, you saw many teams that fit that definition.
However, all those teams were ones who failed to survive the Interhigh, let alone any other competition in the basketball season.
They could have failed in the beginning stages of the season, or tantalisingly near the end. However, it didn't matter when they had gotten their loss. In the end, a loss was a loss.
Working 'together as one' and mobilising everyone across the court during offence and defence was meant to help teams get stronger by removing any weak links. However, you thought that such an interpretation doesn't make sense.
