A lone car drove through the unusually silent road, its rear lights piercing its way into the dark, illuminating the path ahead for the man behind the wheel.
“Thomas’ house warming party was nice, wasn’t it?”he asked his wife who sat in the passenger’s seat cradling her two babies who were apparently twins. One of them sat eerily silent and staring into space while holding on tight to his mother’s small finger. The other was more active cause she kept babbling babyishly, playing with her small toy puppy.
“It was fun,”the woman grumbled.
“Really, Tiff? Okay, what happened?”the man asked, instantly recognizing his wife’s tone of displeasure.
“Harry’s wife must’ve felt like an angel tonight. I mean, did she really think wearing that million-dollar worth of a necklace would make me jealous? Like, really?”Tiffany scoffed, looking out of the window with an irritated pout and the man, Jason, chuckled, shaking his head at his wife’s seemingly cute Jealousy.
“Of course you wouldn’t be jealous. You have tons of them back at home. You just choose to not show off,”the man replied, humouring her even when he knew right where the conversation was heading.
“Exactly!”She agreed sharply. “But……I don’t have the one she wore, darling. Darcy said it’s a new model. I want it, Jason.”
“But it’s not like you even wear them, Tiff. You can’t just keep gathering a collection of gems and stones. It’s a waste, reckless spending,”Jason pointed out.
“But Jason…..”Tiffany was saying when she looked ahead to see someone in the middle of the road. Her eyes widened in alarm as she yelled out, “Jason, watch out!!!”
Instantly slamming his foot on the brake, the car screeched loudly to a jarring stop, luckily halting just before it could hit the standing figure.
Jason frowned, wondering what a sane person would be doing standing there at a very late hour of the night. He tried craning his neck to see the girl’s face, but he failed ’cause her face was perfectly obscured by her long black hair.
He expected her to eventually move out of the road, or say something. But she did none of that, making the situation look a whole lot stranger than it already was.
Tiffany, gripped by mother’s instincts, tightened her arms around her babies.
“Who’s she?”she asked in a whisper, her voice laced with fear. And who wouldn’t get scared in a situation like this?
“I have absolutely no idea. Think she’s crying? Maybe I should go check it out,”Jason spoke in concern, but Tiffany instantly forbade it.
“No! You’ll do no such thing. I mean, look at her. She’s giving off major Wednesday Addams vibes, plus the fact that she looks like lasers are going to shoot out of her palms any moment from now. I mean, just look at her,”Tiff expressed her fears and her husband shook his head.
“You should limit the fantasy and horror movies you watched. Stick with romance,”Jason spoke in a mumble before hitting on his steering, letting out the loud sound of a sharp, blaring horn.
“Hey, girl. What do you think you’re trying to do? Get yourself killed or something? Get out of the damn road!”he shouted, trying to make sure he was being heard. But that was when she finally raised her head, her white pupils and irises staring dead at them. Her face was naturally pale white, her lips painted abyssal black, and her long, high collared gown only made her look a lot more ghostly.
