Letters and changes

The room felt emptier than ever. Jungkook sat on the edge of his bed, staring at the letter in his hands. His fingers trembled as he unfolded the paper, Taehyung’s familiar handwriting staring back at him.

*“Dear Jungkookie,
If you’re reading this, it means I’m already gone. I’m so sorry I couldn’t say goodbye in person. There are so many things I want to tell you, but I don’t even know where to start.

I never wanted to leave you, Jiminie, Jin hyung, or Namjoon hyung. You’re my family—the only one I’ve ever known. But I had no choice. My father….. He’s given me an ultimatum, and I can’t escape it.

Please don’t come looking for me. I don’t even know where I’m going, but I know it’s far away. I don’t want you to get hurt because of me. Just promise me one thing: live your life. Be happy. Even if I’m not there, I’ll always be thinking of you.

I love you, Jungkookie. More than words can ever say.
Yours always,
Taehyung.”*

Jungkook’s vision blurred as tears spilled onto the paper. His chest tightened, and he felt like the walls were closing in. *“Taehyung… why? Why did you leave without telling me?”* he whispered, his voice breaking.

Jungkookie you l..love h..him don't y.you?

Jimin and Jin sat in the living room, their own letters clutched tightly in their hands. The atmosphere was heavy, suffocating.

“He’s gone,” Jimin said, his voice barely above a whisper. “He didn’t even say goodbye. He just… left.”

Jin sighed, running a hand through his hair. “I don’t understand. What could’ve been so bad that father made he had to leave like this? And why didn’t he tell us?”

Namjoon walked in, his face pale. “Did you guys get letters too?” he asked, holding up an envelope.

They nodded silently.

Jungkook’s mom and dad were sick with worry over their son’s condition. Jungkook’s eyes were red and swollen, his body weak from days of barely eating or sleeping. Today, he realized just how much he loved Taehyung—how deeply his feelings ran. But now, those untold emotions were locked away in a room in his heart, with no way to reach the person he were meant for.

Taehyung was already gone, and they didn’t even know where. The uncertainty gnawed at Jungkook, leaving him feeling helpless and lost.

Jungkook thought, *I can’t just sit here like nothing’s wrong. I’m a doctor—I need to treat people. I can’t let this break me he said to himself .* He had barely slept last night, finally dozing off around 1 or 2 a.m. after hours of lying awake, consumed by thoughts of his baby—Taehyung.

The next morning, he woke up exhausted but determined to distract himself. As he was about to leave, his mom called out, “Jungkook-ah, eat something.” He didn’t feel like eating, but since he hadn’t had dinner the night before, he knew he had to force himself. If he didn’t, he’d likely faint. So, he took a few bites—maybe two or three—before pushing the plate away.

Without a word, he grabbed his coat and headed out, muttering just a quick “Bye” to his mom. He couldn’t bring himself to say anything more.

Changing

The other side was no better—Taehyung’s side. He sat alone in his luxurious room, staring blankly at the opulence around him. But what good was a luxury room when there was no happiness to fill it?

He sat alone in that room, surrounded by luxury that screamed opulence. But none of it mattered to him. He didn’t want any of it—he just wanted his Jungkookie. Would he ever get him back? The answer was a resounding *no*, and the thought made his heart ache with unbearable sadness.

Earlier, his father had coldly instructed him, *“You should start your training tomorrow. Now, go and rest.”* The words echoed in his mind, and tears welled up in his eyes. He wasn’t ready for this. How could an innocent boy like him become a mafia? But this was the harsh reality Taehyung was forced to face, a path he never chose but was now walking.

Taehyung was training now, and he wasn’t the same person he used to be—even he could see the change in himself. Over the past week, he had proven to be a fast learner, picking up skills quicker than anyone expected. But what shocked him the most was his strength. He had beaten another person so hard during training that it felt like their legs might break. *Maybe I’ve already accepted this mafia life,* he thought, a bitter laugh escaping him. *Who knew I could be this strong?*

He couldn’t help but chuckle darkly at the thought. *Breaking someone’s legs? Hehe… who would’ve thought?*
