Chapter Ten: Not Fair
Kylie couldn’t take it anymore.
She couldn’t take it.
Because the whole night—ever since they got back to the apartment—she had been watching Ruby drape herself all over Malia, giggling at every stupidly charming thing she said, twirling her hair like she was in some kind of romantic comedy.
And the worst part?
Malia was letting her.
Malia—who had been the one to take her out tonight. Who had climbed onto that rooftop with her. Who had brought her snacks and made sure she was having a good time. Who had held her hand when they were running from the paparazzi.
Malia, who had looked at her on that rooftop like she was the only person in the world.
And now? Now, Ruby was sliding into her space like it had always belonged to her.
And Malia wasn’t stopping her.
And it wasn’t fair.
Because Kylie had never had this before.
Never had a moment where she liked someone and it actually felt like they liked her back.
Never had someone take her out, make her feel special, give her butterflies, hold her hand just because.
She had never had a date.
Because that’s what tonight had been, right?
It had been a date.
Malia had taken her on a date.
Not Ruby.
Not Ruby.
So why did it feel like she was losing something?
Kylie clenched her jaw, ignoring the tight feeling in her chest. “I’m going to bed,” she muttered, pushing off the couch.
Ruby barely noticed, still locked in her shameless flirting.
Dara, however, frowned. “Kyles—”
But Kylie was already gone, slipping into her room and shutting the door behind her.
The second she was alone, she let out a shaky breath, pressing her back against the door.
It wasn’t fair.
She squeezed her eyes shut, willing away the stupid, ridiculous sting behind them.
Because it wasn’t like she and Malia were a thing. It wasn’t like she had any claim over her.
So why did it feel like her heart was breaking over something that was never really hers?
-------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------Malia felt it the second Kylie left.
One moment, she was half-listening to Ruby’s relentless flirting, watching Kylie out of the corner of her eye as she got more and more quiet.
The next? Kylie was gone.
And suddenly, nothing else mattered.
Malia barely registered what Ruby was saying anymore. Something about taking her out for drinks. Or a private concert. Or whatever else Ruby thought would impress her.
