The old lady sat in her usual spot, the dim glow of multiple screens casting sharp shadows across her face. The air was thick with anticipation—something big was coming.
She glanced at the three standing before her; Riki, arms crossed, unreadable as ever; Rei, leaning casually against the desk, twirling a pen between her fingers; and Maki, shifting on his feet, eager for action.
“We’ve got a big job,” The lady announced, watching their reactions carefully.
Maki’s eyes gleamed. “How big?”
“The biggest we’ve had in months,” she said, pulling up a blank screen.
“The client didn’t reveal himself, but the payment is generous. More than generous.”
Rei whistled. “That means trouble.”
“Or it means we hit the jackpot.” Maki smirked. “I call dibs.”
“Like hell you do.” Rei scoffed.
Riki remained silent, waiting.
The lady leaned back. “You three always act like kids when a big job rolls in.”
She turned her gaze to Riki. “You’re taking the lead.”
Maki groaned. “Unfair.”
Rei rolled her eyes. “Obviously. You suck at stealth.”
Maki scowled. “That’s subjective.”
She ignored them. “Rei and Maki, you’re backup. You assist when needed, but this job is his.”
Riki finally spoke. “What’s the work?”
She paused before answering. “You’re keeping an eye on someone.”
Riki’s brow lifted slightly. “Surveillance?”
“Yes.”
He exhaled through his nose. “I don’t kill.”
Her gaze sharpened. “It’s not that.”
Riki’s expression didn’t change. “Then what?”
“You’re watching a girl.”
A pause.
He tilted his head. “The client’s wild for asking me to stalk someone.”
The lady smirked. “Don’t overthink it.”
Rei and Maki exchanged glances.
“Why would someone pay this much just to keep an eye on a girl?” Rei mused.
“Maybe she’s a VIP’s kid? Or someone dangerous?” Maki guessed.
She shrugged. “Doesn’t matter. The job is the job. You take it or I'll assign it to the other kids.”
Riki didn’t respond immediately.
The lady placed a tablet on the table. “Her name is Nakamura Natsumi.”
Riki glanced at the screen.
A girl in her mid-twenties. Dark hair, sharp eyes, dressed in casual office attire. Nothing seemed unusual at first glance.
He exhaled. “Fine.”
She nodded. “Then it’s settled.”
Little did he know—this job would change everything.
Riki leaned against the rooftop’s edge, his sharp gaze locked onto the figure below. Nakamura Natsumi.
She walked with purpose, a coffee in one hand and her bag slung over her shoulder.
