The stranger appeared again at the train station.
Tall, with a black hoodie obscuring their face, they lingered at the edge of my vision. I’d noticed them weeks ago—always standing too close, never speaking. At first, I dismissed it as paranoia. But today, they followed me.
My pulse raced as I ducked into a convenience store, pretending to browse snacks. Through the window, I saw the figure pause outside, head tilted toward the entrance.
*Breathe. Breathe.*
I texted Yuki: *Someone’s following me. At Station Mart.*
Her reply was immediate: *Stay inside. We’re coming.*
Ten minutes later, Aiko and Yuki burst in, Ren trailing behind. The stranger was gone, but their presence lingered like a stain.
“You’re sure it’s the same person?” Ren asked, scanning the street.
I nodded. “They’ve been around school too. Outside the gates sometimes.”
Aiko’s eyes narrowed. “We’ll walk you home. Every day.”
Their protectiveness should’ve comforted me, but it didn’t. Because that night, I dreamed of open fields and faceless figures chasing me, my friends always just out of reach.
The next morning, I found a note tucked in my shoe locker: *Your friends can’t save you forever.*
