The thick tension that eluded from the darkly colored room and twisted walls was something you'd never gone through before. Even in all the death, dirt, and debris you've gone through, never in your life had you been so lost as you are now.
Many questions ran through your head, and many answers were sought after when the frontman was revealed. The very second he lowered that mask, you feared for who was behind it, only to get the answer you least expected.
"Why did you join the games this time?" Your mouth was dry, and you ignored the hunger that crept up. You were most of all concerned with his sudden reveal, and his desire to keep you safe.
"I joined again to watch Gi-hun closer. He had played before in 2021 as he mentioned, with 455 other players. He was the sole survivor, the only man standing. Despite it all, he returned to do exactly what I wanted to do years ago, stop it."
The similarity in both their stories was astonishing and honestly confused you so badly. It all got so twisted, the story growing more branches as he continued.
"I wanted to see what he had planned, how far he'd go, even to see if he'd take the same greedy and selfish route I took. In the end, he is a far better man than I."
You couldn't believe it, your eyes looked all over his face, and he couldn't look back at you. A deep, dark hole pounded in his gut, he'd been lost for a long, long time.
"What made you bring me here? Keeping me so safe?" you asked, your voice steady despite the uncertainty curling in your chest.
He took his time answering, unfolding his story—his involvement with Gi-hun, his place in all of this—but his thoughts on you remained untouched, a mystery left unspoken.
"You've been an odd figure in this case," he finally said, his tone measured as if he had rehearsed these words before. "Despite your lack of experience, you stayed for the money. You were selfish, but not in a way I've seen before. Even though you wanted to walk away with whatever you could, the thought of putting yourself first never once truly crossed your mind."
His explanation was meticulous, each word calculated. He had studied you—closely.
"You voted to stay twice. Not because you craved wealth, but because you only needed enough to survive. The second you were given a choice between yourself and someone important, you voted X. Even when you voted O, it wasn't for yourself—it was for those around you. A reflex. A means of keeping the peace. Self-preservation, not ambition. You knew those around you wouldn't take kindly to defiance."
You had never once caught him watching you. Yet somehow, he had seen everything. He had been observing you just as closely as he had watched Gi-hun.
The way he put it made you seem so innocent, in all honesty, you had been stupid to vote O the second time—even after meeting the group Gi-hun was in.
