Burping happens when excess air or gas in your stomach is released through your mouth. It's a natural and common process, and here's why it happens:

SWALLOWED AIR
When you eat or drink, you often swallow small amounts of air along with food or liquid. This can happen when you talk while eating, drink carbonated beverages (like soda), chew gum, or even just breathe deeply. That air has to go somewhere, and the body often expels it through a burp.

DIGESTIVE PROCESS
As food breaks down in your stomach, gases are also produced as part of the digestion process. This can happen due to chemical reactions in your stomach, like when stomach acids break down food. This gas accumulates and has to be released, and sometimes it results in a burp.

CARBONATION
When you drink soda, beer, or sparkling water, those drinks contain carbon dioxide (a gas). Once the drink is inside your stomach, the gas can build up and needs to be released through burping.

RELIEVING PRESSURE
Burping helps relieve the pressure caused by air or gas buildup in the stomach. If this pressure isn't released, it can make you feel bloated or uncomfortable, so burping is a way for your body to make space and keep things running smoothly.

BODY'S NATURAL REFLEX
Burping is a reflex action controlled by your body's nervous system. When there's a buildup of air or gas, your brain sends a signal to your diaphragm and other muscles involved in the burping process, helping to expel the gas quickly and with relief!

So, burping is your body's way of getting rid of excess air or gas that has built up in your stomach, and it's totally normal! 😌
