We walk right into the Palace of the Kings like we belong.
I follow An as she breezes right past the guards and over to the blond man lounging in the throne. She slips her mask off.
"You are either incredibly brave, or incredibly stupid to show your face in here, legionnaire."
"I need answers."
"Oh, you need something from me?" he retorts. "Funny how that works."
"Forgive me if I didn't choose the side of the ones who almost got me killed," she says with mock sympathy. "You and your people were the reason I ended up on the chopping block. I chose to cozy up to the ones in power. Can you blame me?"
"My people are the ones who explained to you what you are. What your destiny is. Delphine and Esbern gave you answers your General rejects." He shakes his head. "Without me you would be nothing."
"Is that so?"
He raises his eyebrows. "Yes, it is."
There are a few moments of silence.
"Do you know why I was on that path outside the border when the Legion picked us up?"
He smiles and nods. "I know who you are, Anada."
She looks at him, stone faced as usual, yet I see a glimmer of hope slip through.
"I know why you don't know who you are. I know why you were with us when we were captured."
"Tell me."
He chuckles and shakes his head. "You want answers, girl? It's going to cost you."
She steps closer, ascending the steps to his throne. "You may have destroyed your predecessor with your voice, but I can guarantee, I've learned tens more Thu'ums than you have. If you want to have a shouting match, you won't win."
He smiles. "I already have. Seeing as how you need me alive to tell you who you are, Dovahkiin, I'd say you'd better listen up."
She clenches her jaw. "What do you want."
"Your undying allegiance."
"And you trust my word?"
"I'd trust General Tullius's severed head a lot more."
