Chapter 20

Deveraux looked around the building was sleek and modern, and nothing like he'd see in the 1960s.

Kyle sat as his mother tried to sit separately, but Kyle pulled her closer, pushing a nine glock in her rib cage.

He signaled for Deveraux to sit. He did. As I was saying in the barn before, we were interrupted.

I am a third generation scientist. In 1924, there was a program paying for blood from black people. My grandfather, a scientist, believed that black people.. our blood was... is royal. It was a black woman blood and DNA that was in every vaccination that was ever created.

If a blackwomans blood is in every vaccination created, injected into every human alive no matter the creed, what does that make her? That makes her a goddess, one who can cure mankind.

If the cure for all disease was in her blood in her DNA in her red blood cells, then this makes us truly of a royal priesthood.... Gods amongst men!

My grandfather researched and figured out that our blood and our plasma had certain properties and strengths that other races lacked. Our blood does not break down when fused with diseases it eradicate them, and if... it can not eradicate the disease it refuses to assist the sickness in killing the host. Instead, the illness fuses itself with our DNA strands.

Instead of killing us and breaking us down, Deveraux it turns us into that!

He turned on his moniter of Adam and kis bee hoard finishing off the remaining guards. Do you see him? That is now a God amongst men. One who can hide amongst us and not be detected... unless he wants to be.

A king! Of one of the most violent killers toward mankind the African bumble bee. Kyle scoffed as Deveraux's mom giggled.

I'm sorry, is something funny?

Yes... you are.

You have held us here playing God, messing around with what he made humans. If he wanted this DNA thing you speak of to be messed with inside us, well, he would have done it. You are disgusting, as so were your ancestors, sir.

Kyle stood pointing the gun at his mom. He poured himself a whiskey and coke. Do you want some Deveraaux? Deveraux thought a minute his mother lightly shook her head no bit Deveraux...

Yes, I'll wet my beak.

Kyle covered the bottom of the whiskey glass, and Deveraux gave him a look. This ain't papa Michael's old Hooch now, although his Hooch is slamming, and I just got a liquor contract signed.

You sold my grandfather's hooch recipe without asking? No, I agreed to license the recipe out to a Majestic Whiskey for their black line accenting new black entrepreneurs who have their own liquor recipes.

I entered papa Mike's Hooch, and guess what, Deveraux? I won, and I signed a 10 million dollar contract for use of the recipe over the next five years.

Then what?

Well, when the five is over, I'll have enough Capitol to bottle it as my own and introduce the world to my new liquor and spirits line.

Wow, so you not only held us in captivity like animals for three generations, but you steal our family recipe too?

Yep, that and Halo's apple pies those things are bigger than pretty pies! I sold 50 million pies last year, all from Halo's recipe. I called them Halo's Heavenly pies. People love the apple the best.

Have you been taking something from each of the 10 families and capitalizing off it, Kyle? You were never going to let us go?

Go where Deveraux, where would you go? Humm? Into Jim crow where they hate the black man? Or here safe from hate and despair?

He sat back sipping as did deveraux. You all were bever supposed to stay, but the 10 families had the strongest blood, the best DNA that was compatible for fusing.

We injected a very special DNA into the first lune of subjects... your grandparents.

And?

Nothing, so we just couldn't let them go. Then, we injected another DNA into your parents.

And?

No bites, nothing, then Adam was born and finally a hit! Not what we wanted or expected but nevertheless a hit. Then... he escaped with the driver on his day of retirement. We searched high and low for Adam. We could never find him. We figured he must have had some kind of cloaking mechanism.

We surmised our research was lost or at least placed on hold regarding Adam. Then there was you so smart on the TV games and so strong could cut a log with an axe in one blow.

Intelligence is humble but nothing. So... I let you leave. Deveraux's eyes grew big. I paid the guard to agitate you in the mall and it worked. There is was in plain sight!

He smiled wickedly, "Don't you see, it was always you Deveraux and now that Halo is--

Pregnant!?

Yes, mother... you're going to be a grandmother twice because Adam is expecting as well. We need to get Halo back here to study the child and you in your natural habitat.

Deveraux was beyond infuriated. Let's go, mother... now. He stood holding his mother's hand to walk out the door.

Ahhh!

Deveraux's mother fell limp in his arms she looked at her hand full of blood. Deveraux looked down she'd been shot in the stomach.

Deveraux stood over his mother's body, staring at Kyle, who trembled in fear as a bright light flew through the lines burned under his skin swift and fast. Kyle stared at his chest inquisitive through his unzipped orange hoodie as the light speed increased with the velocity of his rage.

Kyle glared up as Deveraux levitated off the floor effortlessly with fire burning bright with red undertones, pertruding out the pored of his dark melanin skin crackling from behind him.
