Eight months after your last mission with Bucky, you've finally found your place among the Avengers. But just as you start to feel secure, Hydra resurfaces, and this time, they don't just take Bucky back under their control. They take you, too. Subj...
You wake up wrapped in Bucky, his arm draped lazily over your waist, his chest pressed against your back, his breath slow and steady against the curve of your neck. The morning light slips in through the thin curtains, casting light shadows across the room. For a moment, everything is still. Peaceful.
Bucky's hand shifts slightly, fingertips tracing slow, unconscious patterns against your stomach. The weight of his touch is comforting, grounding you in the present. You're safe, alive, and for now, okay.
Bucky was still asleep, his breath steady against your neck, his metal arm resting carefully over your side, always gentle, even when he didn't realise it. You shifted slowly, mindful of the lingering ache in your ribs from the last mission. That laser shot had done more damage than you let on.
He stirred with you, his voice low, still thick with sleep. "You're awake?"
You turn your head just enough to meet his gaze, his soft, storm-blue eyes clouded with concern. "Yeah. Couldn't sleep much."
His hand brushed against your side carefully, as if checking for any sign of pain. "You shouldn't be coming with us today."
You let out a quiet breath, shaking your head. "We both know that's not an option."
His jaw tensed, but he didn't argue. He knew you were right. You needed to see this through.
You turn carefully in his arms, careful not to disturb the tenderness of your injuries. You reach your fingers reaching up to brush against his jaw as his eyes flutter closed, loving the feeling of your touch.
For a second, there's nothing but the quiet connection between you, the tension of last night and the last few days melting away by the closeness of this moment. His thumb grazes your cheek, and there's something in his eyes that feels like a promise.
But reality crashes in fast.
A knock rattles against the door, sharp and insistent. "We're moving out soon," Steve's voice calls through the wall. "Be ready in fifteen."
The warmth drains from the room. You and Bucky exchange a glance, the soft affection replaced with the cold weight of the mission ahead.
Bucky presses a quick, reassuring kiss to your temple before pulling away. "We'll get through this," he says quietly.
You nod, swallowing the lump of fear creeping back into your throat. You hope he's right.
Time skip
A few hours later, the Quinjet hummed through the bleak sky, slicing toward the Hydra facility hidden along the jagged cliffs of some forgotten coastline. The structure came into view slowly, rising from the frozen rock like a tomb.
The circular concrete monstrosity seemed carved into the side of the cliff itself, its stark design seeming more like a prison than a lab. The ocean below thrashed violently, crashing against the cliffs with relentless fury like even nature wanted to erase this place from existence.
