Aang Pov:

It all happened so fast. The blue mask and I were on the verge of escaping the fortress when we were, and I'm convinced that one of the archers took down the black mask guy—those arrows I saw were no coincidence. However, I couldn't dwell on it for too long as Blue Mask and I found ourselves surrounded by more Fire Nation troops. These soldiers were going easy on us as they were finally sending out their firebenders; one of them sent a colossal fire blast toward the blue mask until I quickly spun around and deflected the fire blast with my air bending, causing an explosion around me.

"Hold your fire!" Zhao yelled. "We have to capture Avatar alive!" I wasn't sure if I should feel relieved or terrified because, in an instant, I felt two swords just inches away from my neck.

I wanted to ask the man in the blue mask what his intentions were, but I decided against it. First, I was stunned and caught off guard by the suddenness of his actions, which had turned me into his hostage without any warning. The adrenaline coursed through my veins, leaving me momentarily speechless.

Second, I understood that any attempt to draw a response from him would likely be futile, as he remained stoic, his eyes hidden behind the mask, revealing nothing of his thoughts or motivations. Not to mention, I was also scared that he actually might—well, I don't know if I want to finish that sentence.

It wasn't like my feelings mattered to Blue Mask; his agenda far too consumed him. Yet, whatever scheme he had in mind appeared to be unfolding successfully as the heavy wrought-iron gates of the imposing compound creaked open before us.

Blue Mask and I cautiously began to walk backward along the deserted road, the gravel crunching softly under our feet. The guards, dressed in dark red uniforms and standing in a rigid line, watched us intently. Zhao is, no doubt, doing the same. Their stone-faced expressions suggested they were waiting for Blue Mask to make a misstep, an opening they could exploit. The tension in the air was palpable, stretching out every second as we retreated further from the looming fortress in front of us.

Our walk dragged on for what felt like an eternity when, suddenly, something zipped past me with a loud clang, and I watched as Blue Mask collapsed to the ground. "They had an archer take down Blue Mask," I declared, sensing the rush of footsteps closing in on us.

Without wasting a second, I unleashed my airbending, creating a thick cloud of dust from the dirt and gravel beneath my feet. As I prepared to check on and help Blue Mask, this cover would shield us from any incoming arrows. I noticed that his mask was slightly askew. Although I still couldn't see his face, my curiosity was getting the better of me despite the trouble approaching. I had to know who my rescuer was.

The moment I saw who was behind the mask, I quickly regretted my decision. "Of course, Zuko, of all people, would be the one to try to save me, but why?" I wondered as I backed away from him as if he was about to attack me at any moment, even though I knew who was unconscious.

I could hear the soldier coming closer and closer. I had to leave now before it was too late. I had no reason to save Zuko. It was evident to me why he saved me. He wanted to capture me himself, nothing more.

"yet, I couldn't leave Zuko here." I thought to myself. "I mean-"

"Aang!" The familiar voice snapped me out of my thoughts, and I turned to see Y/N standing right beside me, wearing tattered, burnt clothes and a large, broad sword on his back, just like the guy wearing-"

"You'er the black mask demon?" I asked Y/N, surprised by his unexpected appearance.

"I'll explain later, Aang!" I heard Y/N say as I watched him struggle to lift Zuko onto their back. It was clear they were having difficulty, likely due to the wound on Y/N's right shoulder. "Right now, I need you to help me get Zuko out of here."
