DONT BE A SILENT READER♥️
Maya's POV"C'mon, we gotta go."
Minho's voice was sharp, his breath uneven. He stood over Alby's unconscious body, glancing at the sky. The last sliver of sunlight was gone.
"We can't just leave him here!" Thomas snapped, his face twisted with frustration.
Minho clenched his jaw. "We can't carry him all night. We gotta be selfish."
No. That wasn't an option.
"We'll find a place," I said firmly, surprising even myself. "Somewhere to hide him. And then we'll go."
Thomas met my eyes, nodding. He turned to Minho, waiting for his response.
Minho exhaled harshly. "Fine. But hurry."
Thomas and Minho hoisted Alby up, draping his arms over their shoulders as I led the way. My heart pounded as I searched for a place—anywhere—to hide him. The walls of the Maze stretched endlessly around us, cold and unforgiving.
Eventually, Thomas spotted a thick cluster of ivy hanging from the wall.
"There," he said, his voice breathless but sure.
Without hesitation, I yanked down strands of ivy, wrapping them around Alby's waist. Together, we pulled, muscles aching, sweat dripping, until he was high enough that the Grievers wouldn't see him.
A high-pitched, gut-wrenching scream filled the air.
They were here.
Minho's head snapped toward me, eyes wide with fear.
We yanked Alby the last few inches upward, securing him against the ivy just as the sound of clicking filled the Maze.
Close. Too close.
"That's it. I'm out," Minho said suddenly, letting go of the ivy.
"No! Minho, please!" I begged, my eyes stinging with tears.
For a second, he hesitated. Then, with a frustrated sigh, he grabbed the ivy again, helping us give one final pull. Alby was safe.
The clicking grew louder.
I swallowed hard and peeked around the corner.
A Griever.
It was worse than I had imagined—huge, slimy, metal legs glinting in the darkness. A mechanical monster built to kill.
"Shuck," Minho breathed before grabbing both mine and Thomas's arms.
"RUN!"
We sprinted, legs burning, lungs aching, turning corner after corner. The sound of the Griever was right behind us—clicking, screeching, hunting.
Thomas and Minho were faster, their bodies built for this. My legs struggled to keep up, my breaths shallow and desperate.
Then I tripped.
Pain exploded in my knee as I hit the ground hard.
I scrambled up immediately, ignoring the sharp sting, but they were both gone.
I was alone.
The Maze suddenly felt suffocating, the walls closing in. The clicks of the Griever echoed—taunting, hunting.
I ran.
Blindly, desperately, until I spotted a small space behind a curtain of ivy. Without thinking, I threw myself inside, pressing my body into the corner, barely breathing.
