IT FELT like forever for Michelle to get her breathing in order. She felt like she couldn't move even after she could. Even so, she could feel the difference in the school as someone had just died mere hours after she left her scar.

It would most likely take some for the person, whoever it was, to show their face around the others, but for the time being, Rhonda had called the group for a meeting in the library.

"Where'd you find this?" Wally asked.

"On the ground. Near the bus stop." Quinn answered.

In front of the sat Mr. Martin's watch. Michelle had never seen him without it and yet, here it sat right in front her like it was the very first time she'd seen it.

"Where's the rest of him?" Charley muttered.

"This has to be what's left of him." Michelle answered. "He's always had this with him. He wouldn't just leave it."

"So we think Mr. Martin escaped here in someone else's body?" Wally asked.

"Michelle's right." Rhonda spoke. "He wouldn't just take it off 'cause he was worried about a tan line."

After pocketing the watch to show Maddie later, the group split off. Michelle and Wally walked side by side until the ended up in the gym, watching the boy's practice basketball.

Michelle hadn't spoken much about her scar. She was glad her friends could open up, even if it was for a fleeting second.

With a soft sigh, Michelle dug through her pocket and pulled out Wally's necklace. She looked down at it for a moment before looking over at the boy who'd been watching her silently.

"I remember when you gave me this." She smiled softly. "It was like... one of the happiest days of my life and it was because I'd knew you'd stay with me no matter what." She looked over at him. "And now that's forever true."

Wally's expression softened. The gym lights reflected off the polished floor, casting faint glows across their faces, but Michelle only saw the look in his eyes — tender, quiet, a little overwhelmed.
