"You want me to do what!?"

Bucky said, taken aback by her team leader's request.

"Train her. Take her under your wing. Be her mentor. You get the picture now Barnes?"

Bucky looks at him, giving him one of his Winter Soldier™ glares.

"What makes you think that I would be a good choice for mentoring a fresh mutant agent? I'm not an excellent fit for such tasks. Why not just send her to Professor X instead?"- he says, not really anticipating the task he's getting placed upon him

The team leader, Zade, sighs. He was aware that it won't be an easy task, convincing Bucky to mentor a person who in his eyes is nothing more than a teenager (even though she's 22).

"You would have to speak to Tony and Fury about that part. They don't think she belongs there. And someone with her abilities, without proper training, could potentially be a danger." - Zade says as he shuffles through her file - "I think that you have what it takes to get her under control in the event she goes rogue."

Bucky scoffs at the notion.

"She's just a confused kid. Anyone could tackle her down and neutralize her in case of such an event. Why not have her under Steve's wing? He's not as harsh as I am."

Zade shakes his head in refusal.

"She's a snarky smartmouth. Poor Steve would have no effect on her performance cause she's all up for defiance. You on the other hand, are something else. Giving her Steve as a mentor would be a godsend gift, not a punishment."

Bucky pondered for a moment before rolling his eyes, crossing his arms in defeat.

"Okay fine. But this is just because I want to spare Steve from the headaches he'd be having while dealing with her."

*Who is he kidding, he didn't mind that much about Steve's headaches. Something else was in the mix. Something he couldn't quite pinpoint yet, but somehow something that felt oddly familiar.*

Zade's face relaxes in an instant, relief evidend in his whole posture.

"Thank you Sarge." -he said

Bucky heads towards the door and exits the briefing room. He finds you on a nearby chair, playing with a Rubik's cube.

"Hey kid, we need to talk."- you hear him say, interrupting your train of thoughts. You dissolve the holographic Rubik's cube and walk over to where he's standing right now.

Bucky watched in amazement as the cube dispersed into bits and particles, disappearing into the thin air.

"Wow, that's not that bad." He compliments you before he continues- "Your team leader Zade has made me your mentor."

You raised your eyebrows, surprisement etched into every inch of your face.

"You're joking, right?"

Bucky chuckles, not expecting her to react like that.

"What? Am I that much of a bugger for you?"

You correct yourself, feeling bad for the way that slipped out of your mouth.

"No, no. I just didn't expect you'd be the one tasked with keeping me in line."

He smiles before speaking up.

"Trust me kid, me neither."

You roll your eyes at him

"At least it wasn't John Walker. I'd shoot myself with a gun rather than have him training me."

Bucky throws you an understanding look.

"Yeah,it could have been worse. Anyways, we start tomorrow. You better not be late, or I'll make sure all of your muscles end up sore for a week straight."

To say that your jaw was on the floor would be an understatement.

"That's all for now, you're free to go enjoy your last day of freedom."

Bucky said before leaving the hallway, disappearing from your field of view. As soon as he was near the elevator, he glanced at his phone. He had two missed calls from the lab, so he decided to pay a visit to the med bay.

"I came down as soon as I saw you called me Bruce. What's the drill?"

Bruce removed his glasses, rubbing his sore eyes.

"You know that we have all DNA samples recorded in our servers, right?"

Bucky nods

"Yes, I'm well aware of that fact. What of it?"

Bruce tries his best to find a way to soften up the blow he has to deliver to him.

"You remember when (y/n) got injured on that one mission? They added her DNA profile to the database recently and there have been some overlaps with your own. This usually indicates that there's some familial relation with two people. I ran the paternity test Bucky. 98%."
