"Thanks, Randy." I grab my water from the counter and smile at her like I do every time I stop in the small convince store. Not that she can see it, but it helps keep up my appearance. And like always, she smiles back and tells me "Have a good day, Lyle"
As I push the door I hear the familiar bell ring signaling that I've left.
I pull my hood over my head as I get back on the street and open my water to take a sip before tossing it in a recycling bin. Part of my daily routine, just to stay off the radar. Stop by the convince store on the corner of the street and buy something. That's what Lyle Ferndie does- well, did, before I stole his identity and locked him in a rental storage unit.
Next up on my Lyle to-do list is to go to the park and watch the people. Well, the birds, but that's what the real Lyle did.
I watch the people.
It helps honestly. I get to be outside and enjoy fresh air while keeping an eye on my surroundings. Once anything changes or someone that I've never seen before comes to this town, I leave.
Unfortunately, my skills are a bit rusty after all these years, because I almost don't notice the cloaked figure on the other side of the road.
Almost.
Walking a little faster I decided to take a detour and turn into the alleyway.
I slow down and focus on my surroundings, listening for any footsteps or breathing. Anything that isn't me.
I walk a little more and turn another corner sinking into the shadows when I notice a glint of light on my left.
I look over and brace for impact when someone jumps out at me with a syringe.
I dodge the attack, moving behind them and I pull their black hood off. They spin around and lunge at me again but I push them to the ground and when they look at me I'm met with a very familiar person.
My sister.
"Dahlia." I state.
Just as she gets up again I feel a prick in my neck and spin around to fight off the attacker but whatever the fuck they injected me with is extremely fast acting and my body falls limply to the ground.
A paralytic?
"I'm sorry it had to be this way, but we didn't have another choice," Dolly speaks up but I can't even look in her direction.
"Let's go," a stern voice says before they kneel over me.
"Please don't be mad at me after this," Dahlia says as the man raises his fist.
Oh, I'm going to be more than mad at her after this.
"Nighty night." The man smiles at me, and the last thing I see is a pair of copper-colored eyes.
