Chapter 3: Victory

Start from the beginning

"Thank you." Was all I knew how to say in that moment.

Demo was looking at me and then all around, he was definetly going to pass out at some point, he looked so drunk. His head then snapped to Soldier and Scout, conversing with them instead.

Heavy and Medic spoke, naturally and Pyro and Engineer were conversing with one another. I noticed a merc was missing, Sniper. I assume he'd be back later after one of the mercs telling me about how he'd been on holiday.

As I took sips of my drink I noticed my anxiety lessening and releasing its hold. I felt more relaxed as I slouched in the red sofa cushion.

Medic seemed to bounce up from his seat, walking towards the old-vintage record player as he took a vinyl out of the big selection of other vinyls, he placed the disc on it and set it up, allowing music to play throughout the lounge, a song I had recognised from my childhood began playing, Soldier and Scouts eyes perked up and smiles were on their faces as they seemed to recognise the tune as the lyrics started. (Song at the top)

"The tax man's taken all my dough
And left me in my stately home
Lazin' on a sunny afternoon
And I can't sail my yacht
He's taken everything I got
All I've gots this sunny afternoon

Save me save me save me from this squeeze
I got a big fat mama tryna break me
And I love to live so pleasantly
Live this life of luxury
Lazin' on a sunny afternoon

In the summertime
In the summertime
In the summertime"

"Ah! Y/n!" Medic chirped, halfway through the song. "Me and the Engineer have started making a device to send you home." He explained, he then turned to Engie. "How long did you say this device vould take to make again?"

"Possibly some time in the next three days It'll be complete." Engineer seemed to smile at the timeframe as if he was proud of himself, he then gave me a reassuring pat on my shoulder. "I told you I'd get you home"

My face dropped as I realised I would be back to my own world, the more and more I thought about it the more and more I just didn't want to go back. Couldn't I just stay here and start a new life for myself? But it had already been decided I was going back.

Perhaps if I allow myself to be emotionally vulnerable and open up about how I really felt they'd allow me to stay. But even then, I didn't want to be seen as a mockery. I didn't want to open up; I also knew I really didn't want to go back to a place that would make me unhappy. A dark thought crossed my mind. What if I break the device without them knowing?

At first I mentally scolded myself for the idea, but if I did do this I wouldn't have to go home. It was the only way right...?

"Y/n?" It seemed they were both trying to get my attention while I was zoned out.

"Oh! Yeah?"

"You should be able to get home in three days if all goes vell!" Medic clapped his hands together.

"Ah-" engineer put his hand in front ushering Medic to be silent as he spoke. "We do need to make sure it goes through some testing firstly, just to make sure you're going to go in and come out safe."

"Well ain't that some bloody good news for you lass!" Demo slurred. "I bet you're buzzing to get back to your world!" He lifted his beer in the air as a way to show his support.
