A few hours passed and it was now four o'clock, everyone in the room was slowly getting drunk when Engineer decided to speak up. "Come on fellas, let's move this outside, start a fire and relax."
"I'll grab Spy and see if he wants to join." Scout stood up making his way out of the room.
We all stood up ushering ourselves outside the fortress, to the side their seemed to be reclinable wooden chairs, the mercs began setting up ten of them in a circle, the area in the middle was spacious as everyone present sat down apart from engineer, crates of beer and cider were all around us as everyone began to drink again.
To the side were skewers and marshmallows.
Engineer rushed back and forth to and from the fire throwing logs, sticks and anything flammable in the middle, once he had decided it was enough he sat himself down in his chair, his guitar beside him as he picked it up placing it on his lap as he slowly began to play a melody and turned to Pyro. "Pyro? Would you like to do the honours?" He asked, nodding his head to the pile of flammables.
"Mmph mmmph mmph!!!" Getting out a lighter, Pyro flicked the steel-wheel of it, sparking the flint and slowly started making the fire.
The fire grew bigger and bigger with the help of Pyro nursing it, he seemed to drop the lighter beside him as he moved out his chair and sat down on the floor, his hands extending towards the fire as he seeked... Warmth? What goes through his mind..?
I watched as the yellowy-red flame danced with each blowing movement of the wind, watching how the fire behaved as it made popping and crackling noises.
Eventually Scout was now outside with Spy, both of them took a seat round the fire, Spy sipping on his wine that he bought out with him while I heard the rustling of marshmallow packaging from scout as he placed a marshmallow on a skewer edging it closer to the fire, roasting it.
The afternoon was full of fun, all of us were sat there drinking eating roasted marshmallows while engineer strummed on his guitar. I was drinking more cider and I didn't feel as nervous as I initially did and was actually feeling more comfortable.
Eventually everyone's heads perked up, everyone was alert as we heard the sound of a speeding vehicle pulling in, it was a camper van and it parked a few feet away from us.
The doors to the camper van opened and walking out of the van was sniper who placed his hat on his head, walking towards us, taking his seat near the fire, crossing one of his feet over the other, and cracking open a beer. He hadn't noticed me as he chugged half the can and had it rested in his left hand. "You lads are NEVER going to believe what I saw."
All the mercs seemed interested in Snipers story as everyone's attention shifted to him.
"So I spent my holiday campin' up in the mountains right?" He began. "I was sat on top of the van looking at the stars and everything seemed normal when suddenly out of the side of my eye I saw an object in the sky! Anyway I got my binoculars and investigated." He paused for the big reveal. "I believe I saw TWO ufos!"
Everyone looked at Sniper as if he was lying and quickly glanced towards one another, when suddenly Scout spoke with his mouthful of marshmallows, we were barely able to make out what he said. "Mmm" he began as he was both thinking about his words and enjoying the sugary treat. "I believe I saw a UFO too!"
Sniper seemed to be shocked yet calmed as this would back his story. "Really!?"
Scout shoved more marshmallows in his mouth as his cheeks puffed up due to how many he had in his mouth. "Yeah." He swallowed the marshmallows. "On an episode of the twilight zone.'"
At this point everyone howled out in laughter as Snipers story had now been discredited because of Scouts obsession with the twilight zone.
Soldier slapped his hand over his knee. "UFO's!? That's a good one!" He chortled.
"I'm being serious!" Sniper stated.
Spy gave a side grin as he murmured. "Did you see a flying pig while you were at it?"
This seemed to make the mercs erupt into laughter again.
Engineer turned to Sniper, placing his hand on my shoulder. "Sniper this is Y/n a woman from the future, she'll be staying with us for three days until we get her home."
Sniper looked dumbfounded and annoyed. "So when I bring up UFO's it's seen as insanity. But the moment a woman prances here and says she's from the future that's normal?" He groaned. "This is ridiculous. With this unknown girl here the administrator should be notified."
"There's no need she'll be gone in three days!" Scout said.
"The only thing that is ridiculous is your obvious cries for attention." Spy challenged.
Sniper groaned, pushing his body up making the chair fall over. "I'm done with this." He then walked away, muttering curses under his breath as he made his way back to his camper, shutting the door, leaving in a strop. I take it he wasn't coming out to rejoin us after being publicly humiliated.
I glanced around at every merc expecting one to stand up to at-least comfort Sniper but nobody did as they all went back to drinks and eating marshmallows.
I know it didn't mean much to Sniper but I sort of believed his bizarre story. I came from another world, surely aliens could be as real as that. "Is nobody going to check on him?" I quietly piped up.
Demo gave a grin. "You're sweet, but Sniper needs time to calm down from being all crankyyy." Demo slurred.
"What if I checked on him?"
Medic gave a chuckle. "Unless you want a jar of piss smashed around your head I wouldn't recommend it Frau."
I decided not to after hearing that. Perhaps I'll go and check on him tommorow?
Later that evening each merc left one by one, at this point it was just Pyro, engineer and me round the fire, engineer was still playing songs on his guitar.
I let out a yawn, stretching as I turned to both of them. "I think I'm going to head to bed." I smiled to Pyro and Engineer. "Thank you for convincing me to stay." I began. "I really enjoyed it."
"Wouldn't have been any good if you weren't here. You go get some sleep hun." He winked.
"Huda mmph!"
Engineer grinned at pyro as he turned back to me. "Pyro says goodnight."
"Goodnight you two!" I bid them farewell as I started walking through the entrance of the base.
Eventually I made it back to my room, flopping on the bed, looking up at the ceiling in deep thought.
"What a crazy day..." I muttered.
.
.
."Three days left..."
.
.
."...I don't want to go..."
.
.
."...Can't I just stay?"
