Harriet pulled away to look at Tom in disbelief, her green eyes wide behind her round glasses as she stammered, ".........What?"

In the doorway, Tom senior seemed unphased but Merope's thin lips twisted nervously.

Tom did not avert his eyes from Harriet's gaze as he glanced at her, but he kept little Tommy his highest priority just then.

"From us both." Tom sternly commanded the healer with a nod, "Hurry up! Do whatever you can, whatever it takes......Save my son!"

A short while later, Tom and Harriet sat on the opulent, velvet bench in the hallway while the healer and Merope worked to aid little Tommy.

Why Tom senior had remained in the room, Harriet didn't quite know, although she supposed he would have preferred to act as his wife's medical assistant rather then sit in the awkward silence that surrounded her and her husband.

Harriet glanced over at Tom.

Tom stared back at her until she looked away.

"..........Anger?" He asked, ".......Or hatred?"

"........What are you talking about?" Harriet huffed as she looked at him again, her eyes narrowed.

"Are you feeling anger or hatred?" Tom asked, the question present only to comfort Harriet, he already saw her feelings as they drifted through her mind.

"I don't know what's worse." Harriet sighed as she glanced at the magical bandage over the vein on her right forearm.

Tom sported a matching one as a souvenir from the blood samples the healer had taken.

"That we.........did what we did." Harriet said as she passed a hand over her face in shame.

"We were made for each other." Tom smirked.

"You were underage!" Harriet shot back.

"That didn't stop you from giving yourself to me." Tom said, his arrogant expression unchanged.

"You meddled with my memory, Tom." Harriet frowned.

"To protect you, of course I did." Tom grinned, "I'd do anything to protect you, sweetling."

"What else would you do, Tom?" Harriet huffed.

The hardness in her words sent anxiety stirring in Tom's heart.

His smirk faded away as his eyebrows furrowed into the beginning of a scowl as Harriet asked, "........If Tommy's paternity is a lie, then what else is?"

"Nothing." His answer was swift, immediate, desperate, yearning for validation, for her to hear and believe him, "Nothing! Our life together is as perfect as I dreamed! Our life together is-"

"Based on rape and mistruth." Harriet finished for him.

"I have never forced myself on you, sweetling, I can assure you of that." Tom scoffed.

Harriet shot back angrily, "You know as well as I do that underage-"

The door to the bedroom flung open suddenly, as if to interrupt their escalating argument.

"If the two of you would come in," The healer nodded at Tom and Harriet.

"How is he?" Harriet asked as she and Tom both stood from the bench.
