The Open Road

The town was gone.

One second, Hollow’s Edge had been warping, twisting, fighting them.

The next—

It was just… gone.

Like it had never existed.

Celina and Elias stood on the empty road.

Sunlight poured over them.

The air was fresh. Crisp.

Elias exhaled sharply. "Holy crap. Did we do it?"

Celina didn’t answer.

Because something felt wrong.

Not in an obvious way.

Not in a horror movie, ‘you’re still trapped’ way.

Just—

Off.

Like they had broken the wrong thing.

Like something was watching.

Elias nudged her. "Hey. We won. Relax."

Celina forced a nod. "Yeah. We did."

Then—

A car pulled up.

And the driver rolled down their window.

The Stranger Who Knew Too Much

The man behind the wheel was older.

Mid-fifties, maybe. Salt-and-pepper hair. A sharp, watchful gaze.

He didn’t look confused.

Didn’t ask if they needed help.

He just studied them.

Like he had been expecting them.

Celina’s pulse quickened. "Can we help you?"

The man sighed. "No. But I can help you."

Elias scoffed. "Oh, yeah? You an escape room expert?"

The man didn’t blink. "You don’t understand what you just did."

Celina’s stomach turned. "We got out."

The man exhaled sharply. "You think that was an escape?"

Celina’s breath hitched. "Wasn’t it?"

The man’s fingers tapped the steering wheel. "How much do you actually remember?"

Elias frowned. "Of what?"

The man tilted his head. "Before you ‘escaped.’ The last thing you saw. The last thing you heard."

Celina hesitated.

Because—

She didn’t know.

She remembered running.

The town breaking apart.

And then—

Nothing.

Elias’s grip on his jeans tightened. "We… we ran down the road. Right?"
Celina nodded slowly. "I think so."

The man’s voice was quiet.

"Think so? Or know so?"

Celina’s chest tightened.
