Jungkook had made a grave mistake.

He should have never come out of his room. Ever. He should have just stayed in there, maybe built a new life inside, grown a tiny plant, made peace with the four walls, and never faced the absolute menace that was Taehyung’s inner circle again.

Because the moment he walked into the living room the next morning, he was met with knowing smirks and teasing glances.

“Oh, good morning, Jungkookie,” Jin greeted, way too sweetly. “Did you sleep well?”

Jimin was grinning ear to ear. “Yeah, you seemed pretty flustered last night. Any dreams? Perhaps involving a certain someone?”

Jungkook groaned, shoving past them toward the kitchen, but his ears were burning. He was *not* going to let them get to him. No way. He was an adult. A fully grown man. He could handle this—

“Oh my god,” Hoseok gasped dramatically, clutching his chest. “He’s blushing!”

“Shut up!” Jungkook yelled, grabbing a bottle of water just to have something to hold. Mistake number two.

Because the moment he opened it, a hand reached over and took it right out of his grip.

Taehyung.

Jungkook barely had time to react before the man—dressed in all black, looking like he had walked straight out of a high-fashion crime documentary—tilted his head back and took a slow sip, Adam’s apple bobbing. Then, as if he hadn’t just committed a crime against Jungkook’s sanity, he handed the bottle back, barely sparing him a glance.

“Water’s good,” Taehyung murmured, voice deep. Then, he strolled out of the kitchen, leaving Jungkook standing there, broken.

Jungkook clenched the bottle so hard it nearly *crumpled*. He inhaled sharply. This man… this… menace of a man… was going to kill him.

And of course, when he turned back around, everyone was watching. Again.

Yoongi, who had been the least involved so far, finally decided to comment. “You okay there, kid?”

Jungkook exhaled loudly through his nose. “No. No, I am not.”

Jin cooed. “Aww, poor thing. Maybe he’s dehydrated. Tae, give him another sip—”

“DON’T YOU DARE.”

The entire kitchen erupted into laughter.

Later That Day

To escape the relentless bullying, Jungkook made the wise decision to step outside for fresh air. Which kidnapper let there hostage to go outside to get fresh air?  Anyway it was big mistake number three.

Because just as he was enjoying the quiet, a sudden gunshot cracked through the air.

Jungkook yelped, nearly jumping out of his skin, spinning around just in time to see a man drop to the ground in the distance—Taehyung, holding a smoking gun, barely even blinking.

Jungkook’s breath caught. “Did you just—”

“He was a traitor.” Taehyung turned his gaze to him, dark eyes calm, unbothered. “You shouldn’t be out here.”

Jungkook swallowed. He knew—knew what kind of world he had stumbled into. But *seeing* it was something else. The violence, the ease with which Taehyung made decisions about life and death—it was terrifying.

Taehyung watched him for a moment, then sighed, walking closer. “You’re shaking.”

“I—” Jungkook looked down at his hands. He *was* shaking.
